Sex-specific factors and APOEε4 genotype alter functional connectivity at middle age Cognitive aging is influenced by sex and sex-specific factors. Indeed, research has shown that parity (pregnancy and parenthood) uniquely alters bioma…

While you are all waiting for treat or treaters & the blue jay game … take a look at our newest from

Farida (one of my fav people) also talks about how to make lemonade when the science gives you 🍋🍋🍋 (hint it’s also why she went from brain to gut to ovary) follow where the science takes you because it can be a glorious- though lemony - journey!

New preprint showcasing @mcgovernaj.bsky.social ‘s work. Using single cell deconvolution on bulk RNAseq from hippocampi of previously parous rats we found 3 cell types with independent parity effects decreases in CA3 pyramidal & SST interneurons but increases in astrocytes. Let us know your thoughts

The White House treats rising diagnoses like failure, not progress. Fine. Science should just rename disorders every decade. They get their “cure,” we get reality 🧪

We need better Alzheimer's disease tests for women which capture this effect!!

Sometimes women with Alzheimer's can have a slower progression of symptoms that suddenly get worse - what if the symptoms we are testing are compensated due to pregnancy like we see here? Perhaps the brain compensates to a point, which once passed results in fast disease progression.

See we found no group differences in the number of spatial navigation errors between the groups, but completely different regions associated with producing this behavior.

This is so important- somehow pregnancy both 'improves' brain ageing, yet increases our risk of Alzheimer's disease?! This data shows that pregnancy and Alzheimer's disease genotype changes the brain, reducing the activity of some regions whilst compensating with new networks!
