Any data out there on raw Impact score distribution after the change of review criteria (from five to three) in Jan '25?
Has this resulted in score inflation, deflation or no change?
There were 338 grants at 15th percentile in '25 vs 269 '24.
Could be due '25 bottleneck but maybe not entirely?
#Question: This may sound like I'm crazy but has anyone experienced immersion oil solidifying or getting stickier after light exposure? Until recently I noticed the oil suddenly gives off a lot of autofluorescence after ~10 mins of imaging, becomes thicker. Have to wipe constantly, really annoying.

Sad news indeed. Pioneer of the genomics era as we know it (genetic linkages/microarrays), and in the cytoskeleton field (tubulin/actin) during the heyday of yeast genetics.
Well said, Philly.
"Since Wilfrid Rall’s seminal work was published in the 1960s, the field has increasingly appreciated that individual dendritic branches can act like neurons within a neuron"
Apical vs basal dendrite differentiation/polarity is so fascinating... and there is nearly zero cell biology about it.

Measles was wiped out in the U.S. 25 years ago and now we’re already past 1,000 cases in February because vaccination rates dropped below the safety line. This is what happens when public health gets gutted and people stop trusting basic science.
Dang. Feels like the Jessell story was (7 yrs ago) yesterday.
The money addiction in science is real...
And seems the haves can never have or get enough of it.

Wish I had a lawsuit against FedEx everytime they have screwed up my lab’s deliveries - examples include a cracked anti vibration optical table, a $800 dollar shipment of protein from Europe (holiday rates apply), multiple orders of perishable brain tissue… and the list goes on and on.

Looking for bead baths - formerly known as water baths.
Anyone has any recommendations for good ones?

Just in case… we are looking for submissions for special issue on septins in MBoC:

Exciting. Nice to see it out. We had tried to go after the AP3 connection in early days of grad student project but did not get too far and went on a different direction:

New preprint from us and our friends in the Odorizzi lab at CU-Boulder – we find an apparent role for septin cytoskeletal filaments and vesicle transport from the Golgi to the vacuolar lysosome in budding yeast.
Proud and excited to share our work with the community! Helen @helenfoster.bsky.social Foster et al. study how #cilia axonemes are built. 👀 Don't miss the gorgeous and insightful movies by @margotriggi.bsky.social, they really show our discoveries in full action!

“For instance, in 2013, Nathan Wolfe, then a virologist at Stanford University in California, proposed that Epstein fund a sexual-behaviour study of undergraduate students to test “our horny virus hypothesis” — that certain vaginal and penile microorganisms might drive increased sexual activity.”
Kaitlan Collins is amazeballs in her job. Stoic as a rock. Always on script, quick on her feet, ice in her veins. I am amazed how she does it. She's going to be THE journalist of the millenial generation. And he always gets questions from her. She's got his attention despite lashing out.
