Outside, something heavy slammed into the hallway wall. The entire apartment shuddered.
Hyun-su’s breath hitched.
And for the first time since his family died —
he felt fear. Real fear. The kind that meant he still wanted to survive.
And it’s already inside the building.”
They swallowed hard, looking him over, almost as if searching for signs on his skin.
“…You’re Cha Hyun-su, right? Room 1410?”
A beat.
“You need to stay close. I don’t know why, but… something about you is changing too.”
Inside, a survivor — bruised, breathless, eyes wide with terror — locked the chain and pressed their back against the wall.
“Don’t go out there,” they whispered urgently. “People are… changing. Turning into monsters. Whatever they want most, whatever they crave… it twists them.
“I just… want to be beautiful…”
Hyun-su’s blood ran cold. He didn’t even realize he’d stopped breathing until a hand grabbed his wrist and yanked him into an open apartment.
The door slammed shut behind him.
Hyun-su took a slow step backward, but the floor creaked beneath him. The noise echoed down the corridor like a gunshot.
The growling stopped.
Whatever was around the corner had heard him.
A chill crawled up his spine. And then, softly — almost too soft to catch — came a whispering voice:
But then he heard it — a wet crunch, followed by a low, throaty growl from just around the corner.
He froze.
Another sound answered it, like someone sobbing… or choking. The air smelled metallic, sharp, wrong.
Hyun-su shoved his hands into the pockets of his hoodie, gaze empty, shoulders hunched — the same posture he’d worn since the accident that stole his family and any reason he had left to keep living. Moving here had been his last plan. Stay in one room, do nothing, and eventually disappear.
Someone was always fighting with their neighbor, dragging groceries home, or complaining about the constant leaks. But today… nothing. Just the dull hum of the flickering lights as he stepped outside his room.
The first thing Cha Hyun-su noticed that morning was the silence.
Not the peaceful kind — the kind that feels wrong, as if the world is holding its breath.
Green Home’s hallways were never this quiet.
