Thanks to @apadivision45.bsky.social for the invitation to chime in on engaging dialogs about important topics, validating how hard it can be to conduct research on these issues, and ways we should advance this science!
31.07.2025 15:59 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0And we got to facilitate more conversations about bridging open science & multicultural research from diverse discipline and career stages. And I got to spend time connecting with mentors and old friends!
31.07.2025 15:55 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0July was a busy research-filled month! I presented @researchmj.bsky.social @apadivision45.bsky.social conferences in Michigan on hot-off-the-press findings from our @barsstudy.bsky.social. Some photos of students who presented posters. More community-facing dissemination soon!
31.07.2025 15:55 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Continued thoughtful cost-benefit analysis, consultation with working partners and populations, and careful planning to protect participant welfare and research study integrity are needed. As we advance science and use new tools, we hope to see more philosophical dialogs and meta-science research!
31.07.2025 03:47 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Now in press in JERHRE: we considered the ethics of using new tech such as VR in understanding discrimination experiences. We intentionally collected data from research participants, as opposed to imposing researchersโ views to speak for them. Data and materials shared, and study registered.

15.07.2025 00:48 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0Those of you in the trenches doing the best of science and training despite all the challengesโฆ.
I see you, I thank you, and I am with you. ๐ I will do what I can to support you and our science and humanity. โ

NIH CoC system is โtemporarily unavailable while undergoing renewal of its paperwork reduction act approvalโ and thus not accepting submissions for non-NIH funded research.
Does anyone have ideas on alternatives to protect participantsโ privacy and confidentiality on new studies?
What do you do to de-stress and (try to) stay grounded? Iโll start. #HangingInThere

10.06.2025 03:10 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Research is self correcting. We do this by disclosing real & โperceivedโ conflicts of interest and positionality if scientist authors, peer reviewers, journal editors, and other working partnersโand recuse when appropriate, so that independent readers can evaluate the credibility of the research.
28.05.2025 19:13 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Just my way of finding creative solution to raise independent $ to sustain our community engagement efforts and culturally informed research, in spite of federal, state, and university funding challenges. Maybe you want to take one of these creations home while contributing funds for science?
28.05.2025 02:32 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Last week of May! We celebrate Mental Health Awareness and Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander Heritage Month with few events!!
First up, letโs talk about getting research experiences during and after college. Research involvement fosters critical thinking & humility. All are welcome.
UW Undergraduate Research Symposium was a success last Friday! Our trainees presented on acculturation and diversity considerations in mental health (yes, letters in our lab name!). Congrats, Clara, Joe, and Dani.

We continue to pursue culture-centered research on mental health and addictive behaviors, despite funding challenges. Come see us this weekend at this community event in south Seattle!

08.03.2025 01:08 โ ๐ 14 ๐ 3 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Currently, NIH's Center for Scientific Review reviews 66,000 grant applications a year, with panels run by NIHโs separate institutes reviewing the rest.
Under a new plan, the institute-run panels will be eliminated, and many of the scientists overseeing them will be laid off. scim.ag/3QP0FUG
