Paper out! We used RNAseq to track changes in P. aeruginosa gene expression over 7 days of #biofilm infection in our #CysticFibrosis lung model. www.microbiologyresearch.org/content/jour... #MicroSky (1/n)

I am looking to get my hands on some Lactobacillus spp. from the urogenital tract for work on UTIs and AMR. Does anyone have any that they would be willing to share?

I had a contact, but the MTA has been a nightmare to sort from their end, so struggling.

Epistasis and co-adaptation in bacterial genome evolution Nature Reviews Genetics, Published online: 02 March 2026; doi:10.1038/s41576-026-00941-7Bacterial genome evolution is shaped by epistasis, which can constrain or promote specific evolutionary paths. The authors review how integrating the effects of epistatic interactions into population-scale analyses can improve genotype–phenotype mapping and provide a deeper understanding of the complex traits that shape the microbial world.

We're looking for (self)recommendations for a Postdoc who is working in the area of AMR (any area, any discipline) to give an online seminar in May.

Reply, DM or email me, there will more opportunities in the future as well so will be good to have a list.

I’ve spent a lot of time over the past two years thinking about genome evolution and how recent research revealing complex gene-gene interactions has complicated traditional β€˜gene-centric’ genomic approaches to evolution. So here is a review that consolidates these thoughts!

🦠 Microbial friends - what is the BEST thing you've ever seen done in a teaching seminar demonstration during an interview? Pitch was to do an upper level micro lesson. Appreciate any tips for @micromal.bsky.social to consider.

Interactive quizes/questions; demonstrates/assesses engagement through the seminar and, if you are able to, can make it a little more fun as well.

Depending on what the seminar is on, you can include art? I used to get students to do a comic strip/cartoon of AMR mechanisms which worked well

I can highly recommend Nicole's and the Modernising Medical Microbiology research group.

I spent a brilliant 12 months with them about 10 years and it really set me up with the skills and ideas to get to the level I am now!

If you have a chance to work with them, do it!

PhD candidate in Equine Intestinal Microbiome and Resistome Join this PhD project to study how the equine gut microbiome and resistome can improve gastrointestinal health and combat antimicrobial resistance.

Our faculty has a particularly interesting PhD position open on antimicrobial resistance, effects of antibiotics treatment on the microbiome and resistome, restoration of the equine microbiome using FMT.

And bring in Oghre, balance the back row (either Fisalu or Ilione at 8, Chesum 6), F Smith at 10, ojomoh at 12, Lawrence at 13. Furbank at 15 (love steward but the team isn't set up for him).

Ford is perfect for tight games or when England are on top. But he cant change a game.

They haven't become a bad team overnight, they're the team that went unbeaten for 12 games including NZ.

Lions players (Mitchell, Itoje, Freeman, etc) look shattered.

No one could see how quickly Ford, George and LCD would drop off a cliff.

Personally SB should freshen up in the fallow week...

Agree. Ford's decision making has been very poor, back row cant compete at the breakdown and England need more heft going forward and Dingwall seems to have forgotten how to defend

What a wonderful paper this, really enjoyable read and fanastic to see how fusion/hybridisation of MGEs in vivo are happening. Now we need to work out which reps, ISs and environments facilitate this and we *might* be able to predict future events!
