can't pinpoint WHEN the song was originally produced. Which, you definitely CAN tell when it was made. Does the song still hold up compared to modern pop songs? Yeah, it fits well into the current style of bubblegum pop. But, that's cuz it CREATED the modern production style. It's the progenitor.

With regard to trans people using bathrooms, we know that trans people assaulting women in women's bathrooms is pretty damn rare, whereas cis men following women into bathrooms and assaulting them there is much more common. So the stated goal does not match the facts.

These are always couched as a "safety issue" in order to get people to fearfully agree with them. "We can't have <those people> here so we should not allow them to use 'our' facilities. It's a safety issue" is the end-run. This is, of course, a lie.

If there are no bathrooms available for you in a workplace, then you can't hold a job there. If there are no bathrooms available for you in a public space, then you can't spend time there. It is a push to keep certain people out of specific places.

So when the DOJ issues an order that trans ppl should not be allowed to use a bathroom at any facility that receives federal funding, this is another attempt to make it impossible for a certain marginalized group (in this case trans ppl) to exist in public and professional spaces.

Yet controlling bathroom access was central to segregation. "Colored only" bathrooms (outlawed at last in 1964) made existing in public and professional areas harder by making it difficult to deal with essential functions that ppl don't like to discuss.

This is part of the point of all the bathroom bills by conservatives. Ppl tend to take access to bathrooms for granted up until they need one and can't find one (like when you're in downtown San Francisco). Thus they just don't think about it too much.
