Open top chambers (OTCs) are small glasshouses without roofs that are extensively used in climate change research to warm Arctic and alpine vegetation to experimentally assess climate change impacts. In this picture we see a bunch of them newly set up in a mountain grassland

The emotional toll of fieldwork: field #ecologists can relate, too. And yet, ecological change often happens gradually, and changing plant communities are not existentially desperate. My highest respect for all who study human consequences of #ClimateChange, this is a crucial insight.
