My initial reaction is that this has likely been true for a long time, but the advent of social media influencers in all these fields makes being famous seem so much more attainable than just doing a good job at the actual job and so more people pursue fame.

You have no understanding of the concepts you’re discussing.
You have to have an extremely low level of empathy and compassion to become a billionaire in the first place (can’t get there without exploiting many people).
But to then have the resources to legitimately treat people like commodities you control… it must genuinely deteriorate your humanity.
