🌬️ 96% of England's nurseries are exposed to unsafe air pollution (PM₂.₅) — above WHO limits.
Young children especially vulnerable 🧒
21,000+ sites analysed (2018–2022)
🏙️ Higher in urban, deprived & diverse areas
We need:
🚗 Less traffic
🌳 More green space
📊 Better monitoring

🌿 Cleaner air for little lungs!
💫We had a fantastic trip to Glasgow for the HDR UK Conference 2025, with poster displays and presentations from the team.💫
Together, we’re working towards cleaner, fairer air for every child 🌍👶

This year CEHN is asking partners and individuals to make a pledge.
Our commitment is to generate and share research that matters to communities, showing how environmental policies can improve children’s health as they grow up 💪

Their resource library includes accessible, evidence-based information for👩⚕️Healthcare professionals, 🏠parents and families, and 🧒children and young people on recognising and reducing environmental exposures and how to take climate action in their own communities 3/
CEHN leads efforts to promote and advocate for public health, environmental, and child-focused policies, while advancing research and knowledge-sharing across its global network 2/
This Children’s Environmental Health Day, we’re proud to be a partner of the Children’s Environmental Health Network (CEHN), an organisation working to create safer, healthier, and more equitable environments for all children 🌍 🧵1/

Beyond the sessions, we enjoyed exploring Cardiff & had a great time at the evening reception at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama 🎶
🙏 A huge thank you to ADR UK & ADR Wales for such an amazing conference! #ADRUK2025
We enjoyed brilliant keynotes from:
⭐ Nisha de Silva (Ministry of Justice UK, Data First & BOLD)
⭐ Tom Emery (Erasmus University Rotterdam)
⭐ Helena Benes Matos da Silva (Cidacs Brazil)
⭐ Emily Jefferson & Fergus McDonald (HDR UK and DARE)
Amal Rammah shared analysis of pollution exposure in the first year of life and time to first bronchiolitis-related hospital admission in a London birth cohort 🌫️🏥
Niloofar Shoari highlighted data challenges & service use patterns in mental health care for children & young people in England. Crucial evidence for improving support systems 🧠💙
Difei Shi presented findings from ECHILD exploring how maternal contact with social care services relates to children’s health and educational outcomes. Linking data to understand intergenerational effects 🧩📊
Selin Akaraci shared research on fine particulate matter and its link to amoxicillin dispensing in infants in Scotland. A key step in understanding how pollution affects early childhood infections 🌫️💊
@perhapsitspia.bsky.social presented on the Kids Environment & Health Cohort, showing how this unique dataset can support research on the environmental factors shaping child health🌍👶
Our team had a fantastic time at #ADRUK2025 in Cardiff 🐉
We joined researchers, policymakers & practitioners to explore how administrative data can transform health, social care, education & more.

🌟 Last couple of days to register for the lunchtime webinar on using UPRNs in research 🏘️
Highlights:
🩸3 immune profiles (from multi-omics biomarkers in blood) linked to children's overall health
🏡14 postnatal environmental exposures were associated with immune profiles
➡️Environmental impact on key inflammatory processes in childhood
Interesting findings from six European birth cohorts exploring associations between environmental exposures and children's immune profiles 🏡🧒

Great to see Guardian cover our research today - it's flats and smaller houses that are most at risk of overheating, so should be no surprise that vulnerable families will be more at risk.
Important to think about cooling homes as well as warming them!
