Advice from our 2-year old Icelandic stallion, Ori:

The same folks saying Minneapolis protesters are paid said Dems were drinking the blood of trafficked children, 1/6 was perpetuated by ANTIFA, and the Biden presidency was a hologram in a basement. Why be distracted by unserious people? Focus.

How did a kid from the North Shore suburbs of Milwaukee end up raising alpacas & Icelandic horses in remote Chilean Patagonia? This wasn’t the result of a single decision, but the accumulation of thousands of little ones. Every time we choose love over fear, we inch closer to our destination.

Pic #1 is from El Chalten, Argentina. I went in autumn last year and it is spectacular. Not sure where pic #2 is from.

They have the ability to recognize humans. These birds often dive at the heads of humans they don’t recognize. For example, on Chilean golf courses they don’t bother people they see playing daily. But if you are new to the course, prepare to have them fly at your head 😂😂😂

A lovely, but bittersweet sunset over beautiful Lonconao Lake in Futaleufú, Chile Sunday evening. You can clearly see smoke from the fires across the border in Los Alerces National Park, Chubut, Argentina 🥲🥲🥲

Los incendios del Bio Bio son una tragedia sin precedentes—pero el humo en mi foto es de otros incendios en Chubut, Argentina

There is not a lot of old growth forest left in Central Chile, so the fires raging currently in the 8th region, an area that is heavily logged, have few natural defenses. The fires in northern Argentinian Patagonia, on the other hand, are destroying several national parks with Old Growth Forest 🥲🥲🥲

Breaking news: New baby alpaca born a few hours ago. So we moved the moms & young ones to another prairie so the big boys—male llamas and horses—don’t play too rough with the baby.

Best failed selfie attempt ever.

This young Icelandic stallion is named Ori. He possesses my whole heart. During these tumultuous times, find an animal that loves you.

These guys are standing vigil in Futaleufú, Chile just in case ICE shows up to repatriate their dad back to the new USA.

Yours truly at “Hosteria El Hoyo” in El Hoyo, Chubut, Argentina in 2018. This is one of the adorable towns devastated by recent fires. Good news? It rained yesterday which is a very good thing. I pray that this lovely inn has survived. They were such lovely folks. #fuerzachubut

¿The Israeli government or Israeli citizens traveling through Argentina? In the 30+ years I have lived in Latin America it has always been common to see young Israelis hitchhiking around after they finish mandatory military service. Their presence has always inspired conspiracies.

Am I sad that my beloved NFL team humiliated themselves last night against their arch rival? Of course. But I am MUCH MORE devastated about the 5000+ hectares burning in neighboring Chubut Province, Argentina. Los Alerces National Park, Epuyen, El Hoyo, El Bolsón, all places I love. All burning. 🥵

I have. The real estate theory makes sense to me with large fires near big urban areas—such as the fires a few summer ago in Valparaiso & Viña del Mar. But there are plenty of big tracks of land already for sale here. Why not buy those? It makes less sense to me.

In short, while I don’t rule such conspiracies out—sometimes people light illegal campfires that get out of hand, too. There is PLENTY of land available for sale to wealthy foreigners already in Patagonia. Why burn national parks? You can’t buy them anyway?

I have seem different narratives and this is certainly one of them.

What I know? We had no snow all winter. Local ski areas didn’t even open. Local glaciers are melting. Rivers are low. The ground is dry. The trees are like tinder. Fires, like Cat 5 hurricanes, are consequences of climate change.
