I think we all know that deep down we really just want 100' tall dance fighting robots.

I always thought that tale was pretty absurd. The idea that any ruler would reward someone that exposed their incompetence is silly.

This meme is apt for the Trump era, but it's also just a more accurate portrayal of the tale to begin with.

"a step on the way to where we are now" is pretty meaningless. Everything that ever happened is a step to where we are now. Not much value in comparing actions overseas against active combatants to those on US soil against civilians. Smacks of 'virtue signaling' to me.

I think this quote is even more relevant to science-fiction writers.

I get the frustration but it's kind of silly to talk about an entire sector like it's a singular entity. The decay of the American press has been driven by a range of social, technological, financial, and political forces over decades. "Gave up their mandate" is just a meaningless sentiment.

I've moved all the stuff I want to outlast me to non-magnetic, non-volatile memory like USB or microSD.
