I'm one of the four fired employees. I was a writer & producer at Bon AppΓ©tit for nearly five years, during which I helped organize our union and sat on our bargaining committee.
I am, to my knowledge, the only trans woman in our union and the only trans woman on editorial who doesn't work at Them

Englandβs golden generation were egotistical losers, says Steven Gerrard
Steven Gerrard has suggested the so-called βgolden generationβ England team that he was part of failed to win anything because they were βegotistical losersβ
Steven Gerrard's remarks deeply revealing on #England #football. I covered the 'Golden Generation' - Beckham, WAGS, Sven etc at #WorldCup 2002 in Korea/Japan, #Euro2004 in Portugal, #WorldCup2006 Germany. V overrated team. Didn't even qualify for #Euro2008

Budget 2026: Basic income for artists to become permanent
The Basic Income for the Arts scheme will be put on a permanent footing in the Budget tomorrow.
In Ireland the government already shows remarkable support for the Arts. Now this: "The scheme is currently a pilot project. It pays 2,000 artists a basis income of β¬325 per week."

FIFA VP pushes back on Trump comments about moving World Cup games from 'dangerous' cities
U.S. President Donald Trump has been reminded that FIFA and not government ultimately decides which cities will host World Cup games.
Well, you've got "the most powerful person on earth."
And then, you have FIFA.
βWith all due respect to current world leaders, football is bigger than them and football will survive their regime and their government and their slogans.β

In #Toronto Do see one of the final perfs of Romeo Pimp, at tiny King Black Box Theatre directed by Sophie Ann Rooney, written by Jesse McQueen. A teen drama becomes sinister & heartbreaking. Terrific young cast in powerful, disconcerting Play. #TheatreTO

An exemplary review in that it is entirely a conniption fit. Now I'm really curious about this movie Hamnet. As the review intends me to be.

Saipan | Official Teaser Trailer (2025) | Coming Soon to Cinemas
Saw #Sapian at #TIFF50 & It's kind-of brilliant. A quirk or a cheat here/there. But captures strangeness of Roy Keane (Γanna Hardwicke) & battles with Mick McCarthy (Steve Coogan, great) & climactic scene is scathingly about Irish identity. #COYBIG #Ireland

'Mare of Easttown' Creator Returns With the Great 'Task'
His latest Pennsylvania-set HBO crime drama casts Mark Ruffalo and Tom Pelphrey as good men on opposite sides of the law
The 'Mare of Easttown' creator is back with another small-town Pennsylvania crime drama, 'Task,' which I liked even better. Also: Tom Pelphrey in this!

I simply cannot understand how a full-time culture journalist could be disconnected enough from the experiences of others in their field to write a "state of criticism" piece that neglects to engage with the dismal economics of critical work right now.
