The home of Democratic thought. The vessel of passion and empathy and higher thinking - Philosophy and mathematics and the love of nature and honor and duty and artistic expression. It’s all here in Greece. The top of the Acropolis is the epicenter of civilization.

The vast history and connection to humanity that the top of this stone monolith holds is surreal.

When you’re here on the Acropolis, you have to remove yourself mentally from the moment. You have to think about where you are, and concentrate on what you’re seeing and what you’re immersed in.

Being here and walking where so many millions of people and world leaders and legendary names have walked over the centuries, it really is very special. I’ve been blessed enough to stroll through the olive grove at the approach to the Acropolis, and I always love looking at the smaller details.

Though it has that urban patina all around, under the bright blue sky, when the sun shines across its whiteness, and all of those buildings and Marble ruins shine bright, it is spectacular.

Athens is so wide and sprawling, with no skyscrapers, it’s uniqueness, makes it breathtaking.

ATHENS. Gritty – a blend of ancient and modern, clean here and there, and filthy everywhere else. Almost every surface is touched by, or covered with graffiti. It is, however, birthplace of democracy, and its self-awareness and beauty are infectious and very comforting in a strange way.

This beautiful, enormous mural which hangs in the grand staircase of the National Archaeological Museum of Athens is spectacular.

Amen, brother! And your dad was an amazing guy… I wish I could’ve gotten to know him better and worked with him. But I heard plenty of stories from you know who L O L.

They’re up there somewhere having a scotch right now… Or maybe they’re boiling in a pot somewhere just a little bit - L O L.

Kindness is infectious - even in the face of the cold hearted. The purest love and kindness is that we give to animals, children, the elderly and those of us who are hurting and forgotten. His bless Dr. Jane as she and her team are some of the greatest examples of pure love and kindness. Be kind.

Classic sketch… I remember getting the book “the art of Star Wars“, a soft cover book, in about 1979. It became like a Bible to me… now it’s dog eared in my library. It had the script and all of the concept, sketches and behind the scenes of photography and the wonderful artwork of Ralph McQuarrie.

Jim, we met at the White House correspondents dinner & that night I told you how much America needs you. We DO!!!
You are a real patriot and true journalist. I’m glad you left CNN. They do not deserve your integrity.

I will not give into the lies

I will not give into the fear

Once, a client of mine invited me to join him and one of his clients who lived half his life in the Bedouin tradition. We rode camels for about 2 hours before we came to his camp in the desert.

And the animals… they are working to bring back the Arabian Oryx. The Emiratis have been cultivating the herd and sectioning off enormous parcels of the desert for their habitat. They are beautiful and docile… but walking amongst them is unnerving with those long horns.

I’ve spent a lot of time in“the Empty Quarter”, what the Arabs call the Rub' al-Khali… it’s the huge swath of the desert on the Arabian peninsula. Stunning, warm and clean. At night, my God, at night the stars are so bright you can see everything. There’s no light pollution.

Maybe it’s because I come from pretty much the opposite of it, but I love the desert. I love the heat, I love the beauty, the dramatic landscapes… and most of all I love the muffled sound of the desert.

The Eaton fire got pretty close to us as did the Hollywood Hills fire… This is the view that we saw from our front yard so it was unnerving, but it was just a lot of smoke and wind damage

We have friends who lost everything… And that is heartbreaking

We’re doing better… Those crazy winds and the fires last week were horrific but thankfully we are safe… Many friends have lost their homes… It’s very tragic

@choosingpeace.bsky.social Cece, thank you for your kind words… I’ve been going to Egypt for a long time. I’ve done some work for the ministry of antiquities there… And I am drawn to the Middle East for sure. It’s history, it’s people, it’s culture and it’s food all speak to me

It’s calm and pretty quiet, drifting on the Nile. The sands of the Sahara come right up to the water, with a narrow strip of green vegetation along the beach. Far on the hill, I could see the mausoleum of the Aga Khan and the prevailing breeze carried my small boat Safely to the Western shoreline.

It was great to get back on the Nile and catch the soft, cool breeze. Here, my friend Said Ibrahim told me how they navigate the narrows of the river here in Aswan. It was so relaxing as the sun slowly set, and another warm night blanketed the region in its warm glow.

It took me less time to ride my camelback down to the shore then it did for us to climb that long slope earlier in the day. By now it was late afternoon and the radiant heat off the canyon walls felt like it was baking me.

I captured one of the Osprey through this old window as it dived to a lizard or small desert rodent for its lunch. These birds are so fast. They are like a dart.

I spent the day exploring the old place knowing I may never come here again, but would likely gaze out at it again someday from back across the Nile. You can see the city of Aswan far in the distance over my shoulder in this photograph.

I was lucky that day to be one of perhaps eight or 10 people visiting this massive ruin. My armed guard doubled as my own photographer as we walked through the bone dry hull of what must’ve been a busy place at one time. The empty courtyards and long corridors must have ghostly visitors at night.

Walled with mud brick to protect the stoics from Bedouin raiders in the 8th and 9th centuries, the ancient fortress have also safeguarded the delicate frescos that still decorate the ceilings of the chapels.

It must’ve been lonely here when this place was inhabited. Now the only sound of life is the occasional osprey (River Hawk) that migrate here from Europe during the winter. They darted past me while I looked out across the dunes into what is Libya. I noticed a small cross carved into the wall.

The Monastery of St. Simeon is Coptic and was built in the 7th century by devout monks, right on the edge of the Sahara. Inside the ruins of the great hall, the hot desert wind whipped through the empty window casings as I sat on the warm stone and ate a small lunch (dates, walnuts and water) .
