Something kind of odd in the book I’m currently scanning: Mirenjo is referred to as "ヒレン姫" or “Princess Hiren” (Hilen? Hillen??) in both the settei and brief description on the bottom of the page. Maybe her name was changed during development?

Got a "Hyokkori Gourd Island" coloring book today!

The series influenced the earthbound series and made a big impact similarly to Ultraman and Astro boy on 60s Japanese media but is basically forgotten about except for the theme song being used as a popular Japanese nursery rhyme

Gourd island is one of the unique ones that is a really interesting series but is locked by a lot of writing only in Japanese and hasn't been rebroadcasted in over a decade. www.change.org/p/nhk%E3%81%... here's a petition for NHK to rebroadcast more puppet shows if you are interested!

Yeah I think that's part of the charm of NHK puppet shows. You never really know what to expect

Well that was fun. 1959 Astro boy was so bad holy cow. Big take away from this is we need more episodes of Akuma Kun with subtitles. Damn shame that show is so inaccessible.

Watching CURSED live action anime on twitch today. If you ever wanted to know what REAL anime looks like, now's your chance. All shows will be broadcast in black & white from the 1960s (with english subtitles). This is either going to be amazing or the worst thing ever.

NHK puppet shows!

There's a lot of them that existed and are lost from this era. Every puppet show and show that NHK broadcasted during this era has missing episodes or is entirely lost

For some shows like "Hyokkori Hyotanjima" it has 8 of the 1224 episodes that have survived while for many it's one, two or no episodes that have survived. NHK would reuse film reels to save on costs. Episodes from this era survived by staff recording in secret

Any TV experts know anything about Spaceship Silica from 1962? (宇宙船シリカ) 227 episode Japanese puppet show & I can't even find a clip of it on Youtube. It's probably laughable by today's standards, but when I see something I can't watch it makes me want to look it up.

I've been collecting DKC merch for a couple years ago and I've never seen it for sale either. Maybe K rool is hoarding them all. If I see one for sale I will let you know!
