That is such a beautiful display and explanation; uranium glass totally rocks.
The Winter Gardens, Sunderland...holds a glowing, radioactive secret. The James A. Jobling Exhibition...let's you touch and test the glow.
Real Uranium Glass, Real Radioactivity.
And there's Dinosaurs.

In doing the research on Sunderland for my latest video, and of all things Jimmy Carter popped up, and I was reminded of how he stopped a nuclear disaster. Beat that, Trump. www.military.com/history/how-...
He created the most beautiful radioactive glass of the Art Deco era. But James A. Jobling’s factory in Sunderland had a secret second act.

Meet Petroleum Quartz also known as Golden Enhydro— a rare quartz variety with ancient oil trapped inside. Tiny bubbles of hydrocarbon liquid move within the crystal when tilted, offering a window into Earth’s deep history. [📹 oneloveminerals]

Ate the burger, had the pudding, bought the T-Shirt.
I missed an opportunity here... www.cbsnews.com/news/us-cour...
What a mighty specimen too.
I sorted my Seaham uranium sea glass into matching piles and gave it the UV treatment.
The two tiny fragments aren't uranium glass, they are most likely selenium and cadmium glass. But I chase the glow no matter what the colour.

Polymarket - a sort of cross between a bookies and a stock market - was allowing people to profit if they get the date of the next nuke going off.
Nice.

A massive thanks to Jen from Cabinet of Curiosities of scoring me a Fiestaware plate and also a little companion for Burt the Hedgehog. On the science side I'm getting around double background radiation on the 102 and a quick 5-minute spectrum shows the classic 'three peaks' of Uranium.
The ladybird book of nuclear power. Essential reading, up my nuclear knowledge game. #nuclearpower #ladybirdbooks #1970s
I was feeling arty so I took my uranium sea glass for a trip to the River Wear. Came out rather well.

There's a lot to dig into with this result, at least sanity prevailed.
I came up with this idea - err - a month ago in one my Cheviots videos. Only logical explanation is that the watched the video, built a time machine and went back 5 years to construct the factory. Only explanation.
What colour do you write your notes in? Uranium Green of course. #uranium
wow they are so pretty!
one thing is for certain, it's quieter :)
My last trip out to the beach with a UV torch:
I can feel the glow from here.
I'm guessing sea glass?
I need to know more! What are these?
In order to take more accurate @radiacode.bsky.social gamma spectrum, I made a lead pig out of a 7kg roll of roofing lead and some duct tape. Simple, but effective. This will help to shield my samples from background radioactivity and remove some of the noise. #science #radiacode #radioactivity
That is so beautiful and stunning. always chasing the glow.
Heads up: Scotland’s mineral sites are now a legal minefield
I do a lot of my rock-hounding in Scotland and am now concerned that my hobby - seen by thousands on YouTube - will be curtailed.

Can you find uranium sea glass on the beach? That's a big fat yes. Tonight's haul from Seaham Hall beach. Can't wait to tidy this up and do some HQ video and images. #uraniumglass #seaglass #seaham
For my next Uranium Glass video, we will go south of the Tyne to tell the amazing story of a Sunderland glass maker, whose art-deco radioactive glass was only the first part of an intriguing timeline. Then - a trip to the beach to see if we can find Radioactive Sea Glass.
Great work Carl, I love following your stuff.
In the last of a series, I take the samples from a radioactive spring, and the peat soil around it, and do analysis with the Radiacode’s Gamma Spectroscopy function to find out exactly what was in the water. Everything from radium, radon, thoron and americium-241.
