23.12.2025 17:54 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0A Japanese ad for Phantasy Star Online, with an illustration of characters and races above the big, bold text for its name and it being a global simulate nous network (i.e. online) RPG. Below are gameplay screenies and text boxes explaining how you'll play with others online and the lobby system.
It's the 25th anniversary of Phantasy Star Online's release in Japan today!
On 21/12/2000, Japanese players could sail through SEGA space and embark on a sci-fantasy adventures in their global network RPG - online with others!

22.12.2025 17:50 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0On this day 27 years ago (1998), Japan saw 4 amazing PS1 games on one great day!๐ฎ
- Fighter/dungeon crawler Ehrgeiz (ft. FF7 fighters).
- Unique SRPG/musical hybrid Rhapsody.
- Thousand Arms was the right kind of cheesy/funny.
- And Suikoden II which makes players feel many feelings.
Today is the 26 year anniversary of The Legend of Dragoon
Released December 2, 1999 (JP) for the PS1
A true RPG gem that is frequently compared to final fantasy series, though I feel it has its own vibe!

A Computer & Video Games magazine news piece about the PCE LT and its expansion ports, CD compatibility, and TV tuner. "One of the swankiest pieces of to ever come out of Japan"
One hella cool and rare PC Engine model: The PC Engine LT.
Released in small numbers in late 1991 for just under 100,000 yen, this laptop PCE sports an attached LCD screen, giving it a PSOne-with-screen feel. Or rather (given its squarer appearance), an oversized Game Boy SP.
Love this collab but disappointed with the pricing model. :(
06.11.2025 07:25 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0We were working on a SNES 'Taz' game at Software Creations in about 1993/4 and all that remains of the game are these three Taz sprite frames. That may change if I uncover any other artwork. I believe these were drawn/animated by Andy Wilson ( RIP ). Andy is at the front in the photo.

I love anime girls with magical orbs in video games. They used to be really prevalent in the late 80s to mid 90s. You know, those solid, spherical objects, often floating in the air. Here's just a small collection of such girls (I'll leave out obvious fortune tellers):

Some games on the SNES, such as Super Mario Kart, boasted "Mode 7" technology. However, this raises the question of what happened to the previous modes. This post explains them and gives examples of their usage in Mario games.
Maybe in the mirror universe

The hum of wire and data. A late 90s tech-vibe and aesthetic of all of its own - Serial Experiments Lain.
