ICE under Trump 2.0 built an unprecedented media operation - deploying videographers to raids, pumping out edgy social posts, swiping pop music for hype videos - and the main metric for evaluating its impact shows that Americans now hate ICE more than ever

The moon going from full moon to a red moon and starting to go back to a normal full moon, then my camera battery door fell off.

Here's my first edit on the March 3rd Lunar Eclipse. 15 moon shots, 1 foreground. Taken over a 3 hourish period.

I mentioned this in my second post, but I fully understand that publishers use VSs to make people jump through hoops to secure funding and I'm certainly not going to fault any dev for going along with a dumb requirement. Still, such a VS doesn't do much for (or arguably does damage to) a team.

04.03.2026 02:44 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 3    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I think it's also team size dependent. The smaller the team is, the easier it is to fudge through alignment over time. And if only one person is using a pipeline, it kind of doesn't matter how they change it over time if it all makes sense in their head.

04.03.2026 02:41 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 4    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I would still say that qualifies as a failed VS. If you moved on, made the rest of the game, then decided your VS was actually below your quality target, you fucked up.

Usually your VS is not your *strongest* content but if it's actually subpar then it failed to establish a workable standard.

I always view them as a development tool, but they are often requested by publishers as more or less a proof of concept, which is kind of stupid imo.

It seems like a common solution for the front ring is to drill two holes and use a pin wrench ๐Ÿฅด

We did VSs on the last 4 games I directed, they were all internally motivated, and they had huge development benefits. Specifically, they gave us an understanding of our quality targets, the feeling of gameplay, and how our pipelines worked, which then all carried over into production.

Yeah, though I think we still had to make some bookends for Pentiment's first act (the opening, the goodbye with Piero).

2. Traditionalism implies the rejection of modernism. Both Fascists and Nazis worshiped technology, while traditionalist thinkers usually reject it as a negation of traditional spiritual values. However, even though Nazism was proud of its industrial achievements, its praise of modernism was only the surface of an ideology based upon Blood and Earth (Blut und Boden). The rejection of the modern world was disguised as a rebuttal of the capitalistic way of life, but it mainly concerned the rejection of the Spirit of 1789 (and of 1776, of course). The Enlightenment, the Age of Reason, is seen as the beginning of modern depravity. In this sense Ur-Fascism can be defined as irrationalism.

It seems nonsensical until you realize that they are no longer interested in maintaining a faรงade that they care about tradition. They don't like how things are and they'd rather they be some other way. Nothing has to cohere; it just has to reject the purported status quo. They're proud to be wrong.

This is a trick question! In all movies featuring humans, they are at fault due to transmission of original sin.

E.g. if you're building 3D assets in Blender but you expect to actually build them in Maya during production... well you need to make that switch and test it before the end of VS to ensure you can actually do that the way you want with the results you want. Winging it in production is hmm... dumb.

03.03.2026 21:37 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 65    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

But in your VS, you need to be using your pipelines and making sure they're robust. It doesn't mean there can't be room for improvement, but you shouldn't be making things in a way you expect to abandon.

03.03.2026 21:35 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 74    ๐Ÿ” 1    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

IMO this is the difference between prototype and vertical slice. Prototypes are for feel/effect and yeah do those as quick as dirty as you want to get the vibe you want. Once you feel good about all those prototypes, you can do an integrated prototype (to test how they feel together) or a proper VS.

Agreed. The VS should be the game experience you want to make THAT IS ALSO made the way you want to make it.

For games I've worked on, the vertical slices that shipped with the game are:

* Fallout: New Vegas (Novac, REPCONN Test Site + surroundings)
* Pillars of Eternity (Dyrford + Crossing, Tempe of Skaen, Clรฎaban Rilag)
* Deadfire (Tikawara, Poko Kohara)
* Pentiment (Act I lol)

How have crime rates in the United States changed over the last 50 years? Both violent and property crime are far below their 1990s peak, but some crimes see periodic rises.

Looking at the 2024 crime figures, it's absolutely insane how Trump, tech billionaires, and centrist pundits fooled everyone into thinking Biden had turned the U.S. into some Hobbesian hellscape.

50-year lows for violent crime, armed robbery, property crime. Second-lowest homicide rate.
