More nope on #ProfoundAutism: An Autistic person’s ALS was only diagnosed a couple of months before they died, as their symptoms of progressive muscle weakness & associated disability were assumed to be 'challenging behavior' due to being 'severely Autistic.'

Hi Helen, there are a few chapters in The Palgrave
Handbook of Research Methods and Ethics in Neurodiversity
Studies that might be useful and I'd be happy to share with you!
Just to acknowledge the elders that also went there in great detail many years ago like the fabulous Institute for the Study of the Neurologically Typical (erikengdahl.se/autism/isnt/) or Andrew Main's 2003 work on 'allism: an introduction to a little-known condition' www.fysh.org/~zefram/alli... !
There is a sort of short form version of that chapter here as well in case it is of interest: www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....
Fabulous research by Wassell (2025) about the importance of Autistic Joy & monotropism!
"Autistic voices suggest that the key barrier to
joyful experience is not autism itself but other
people's lack of acceptance of authentic
autistic behaviours such as stimming and
pursuit of special interests."
Completely agree @autisticrealms.bsky.social , this is very unknowing-y, I wish I had known about it when writing that!
My most in-depth discussion of the Autistic rhizome so far. I hope that people find value in it!
