Easter is coming and as well as our usual fossil walks and seashore safaris, we will be participating at the World Heritage Day Festival!
Join us on Saturday 18th April at the Dorset County Museum. There is a wide range of activities for all ages! See poster for details
We also held a raffle in support of our trustee Johnathon Field, who is running the London Marathon and raising funds for our charity! We raised £271.00! You can support Johnathon: 2026tcslondonmarathon.enthuse.com/pf/jonathan-... (2/2)
We had a great night of food and fun last night at our AGM! 50 friends met to toast our 2025 year, and hear about our 2026 activities! We enjoyed a buffet dinner afterwards to celebrate and catch up! (1/2)
You can help fill our tank on our upcoming Seashore Safari and Easter Egg Case Hunt! Visit our webiste to book! (2/2)
Its that time of year again and we have been filling our catch and release tank for the season! Our work party have filled the tank with gravel and sea water. After a filtration period it will be ready for new creatures to move in! (1/2)
Visitors Stuart and Sharon Woodward from Heathrow found this ammonite on Black Ven yesterday. It looks like it has been prepared but was found just like this perfectly presented by nature #FossilFind
The Centre is open this weekend, for all your fossil hunting tips and safety advice! We are open 10.30am-3.45pm Saturday & Sunday.
The Centre will be closed Monday 9th & Tuesday 10th for essential maintenance. charmouth.org/chcc/opening...
These vertebrae were identified by the late Richard Forrest, plesiosaur expert and close friend to the Centre, as being from a rhomaleosaur. This type of plesiosaur is from the group that would later evolve into the gigantic pliosaurs (like the Sea Rex from Kimmeridge)! (2/2)
Our next fossil of the month is on display and it's not one but a trio of plesiosaur vertebrae, found by Louisa and Craig last February! After spotting the hint of bone, the pair opted to have the rock prepared by Martin Curtis who revealed the three bones. #FossilFriday (1/2)
We've had 2 visits this week from St. Barnabas Multi Academy Trust fossil hunting and visiting the Centre. They all did great finding Jurassic treasures to take home!
We are fully booked now until after the Easter Holidays but still have school slots available from the end of April.
Great to have David Ward from Natural History Museum along with Chris Moore and Paul Davis photographing and examining Gonzo the mummified ichthyosaur today. David will be looking at the rarer cow shark teeth imbedded in Gonzo and taking samples back for study.
We are gearing up to fill our fish tank for the season in the next couple of weeks!
Don't forget we have an Easter Egg Case Hunt and Seashore Safari over the school holidays, where you can come and learn all about the fascinating creatures below the waves! #MarineMonday
March is here and later this month we will see the return of The Children's Fossil Competition!
Starting on 28th March you can submit a fossil & presentation, to be in with a chance of it going on display

A new month tomorrow and changes to our opening times!

We're still stunned by how many incredible finds there were last week during the half term. This one's definitely one of the most surprising ones, we can't wait to see this Jurassic shark jaw once it's been carefully cleaned up, found by Rocco aged 12! #FossilFriday
We had some fabulous fossil finds over the half term and more keep turning up!
Join us this Sunday at 9am on a fossil walk and see what Jurassic Treasure you might find! charmouth.org/chcc/events-...
We're heading into March and (hopefully) some better weather soon, so that means our opening days are changing! From this Friday we're open 6 days a week (closed Tuesdays) from 10:30-4:00 for fossil identification, hunting advice and of course our incredible displays!
It won't be long before we start to fill our catch and release tank with this season's coastal creatures! Be sure to come check it out or join us on one of our Seashore Safaris on April 2nd and 16th to see them in the wild, booking online! #MarineMonday
We’ve spent many years with the River Char Action Group trying to look after our river and keep it clean of microplastics.
An event this Tuesday details plans for 2026….see poster for details!
The end of half term is almost here, but we do have spaces on one final fossil walk tomorrow at 1.30pm!
Book online through our website Event Calendar or at the Centre.
As if to prove how good the fossils out there have been this week, congratulations to Kevin Howard on this phenomenal find! We can definitely say we're jealous of this chunky piece of ichthyosaur jaw with teeth still in there just found sitting on the beach! #FossilFriday
There's still plenty of brilliant fossil finds being shown off to us in the Centre, like this stunning fool's gold ammonite brought in by fossil hunter Leo Marshall along with a bunch of other cool fossils! #FossilFriday
It's been a bit of a gamble this half term if the weather's wet or sunny down here, mostly ending up wet than anything. If you fancy better odds of some Sun in March or April then don't forget out fossil walks and seashore safaris are available for booking online! charmouth.org/chcc/events-...
You've all been doing a brilliant job bringing in some incredible finds over the last few days! Not every day we get a good chunk of fossil fish like this one, a big congratulations to all the fossil hunters out there spotting their 200 million year old fossils!
We also thank team Recyclosaurus Rex for making us some fossil themed cup cakes to look forward to afterwards! Well done everyone who participated, you all did an amazing job to clean our beach! #MarineMonday (5/5)
We had individual prizes to for sought after items such as Lego! Well done to teams Recyclosaurus Rex, Hutch Rich, Time Wasters and Charmouth Scouts. (4/5)
The winners of the inaugural Charmouth Beach Cleaning Championships and the grand trophy were Team Orca! They cleared 4 bags weighing 31.6kg.
Charmouth Scouts were in a close 2nd place, and sorted their rubbish in the quickest time! (3/3)
Thanks go to our partners Clean Jurassic Coast, Nurdle Nerd, Julie Leah from the River Char Project and the CHCC volunteers to help us clear away 30 bin bags of rubbish weighing 138.2 kg! (2/5)
We had a wet 3 hour inaugural Charmouth Beach Cleaning Championships yesterday, but that did not deter over 70 participants turning up to clean our #Charmouth Beach! (1/5)
For those braving it down here over the half term to hunt for some fossils, we've uploaded our beach safety video from the Centre onto youtube. Well worth a watch to avoid any disasters or call outs to the Coastguards. www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBxw...
