I just now realized that I put the flag onto the antenna upside-down. π€¦ But on the plus side, Eddie Izzard says that little fort is claimed in the name of... whatever country the Imperials are from, because they have a FLAG.

Retro Lego: 1492 Battle Cove
Not quite the counterpart to the Imperial Cannon, but similar idea from the Pirates side of the theme. One cannon on a small sandy beach, a single pirate minifigure, and a bit of wall. Oh, and a shark, because shark. Minimal build, still fun. No cannonballs though?

Retro Lego: 1795 Imperial Cannon
This is what it says. One Armada soldier, a cannon, and a tiny fort-in-shallow-water. No roof, minimal support, no land, and for once in an Imperial "base," no jail cell! Still a fun little build, but kind of minimal overall.

Retro Lookback: Bounty Boat...
...well, it doesn't have a prison cell. This is basically a boat with minifigures trying to hide or having just reclaimed treasure. Potential is here - build an island for them to bury the treasure on, or have them searching the island to dig UP the treasure?

Holiday update: I have expanded the beach! Added some sand, made the water in the front here bigger so I can dock a ship, added a small rock to anchor the docks, and made a stand-in Harbormaster's Office kitbashed from the Lagoon Lock-Up and Broadside's Brig sets from the 90s.

Oh - will post new pics of the beach build soon. My parts order for more sand/ocean arrived the other day, so I'm going to try to use the holiday as an excuse to go to the beach! π

Retro Lego: 6266 Cannon Cove
Another Imperial set... with a cannon... and the apparently required jail cell. I really do think the old Pirate sets had a theme going. I checked some other sets and a lot of the pirate-side sets have prisons as well! π

Forgot to add something - it is curious how almost every Imperial-side set includes some kind of jail cell. Eldorado Fortress has one, the Lagoon Lock-Up has one, Broadside's Brig has one, and the Imperial Outpost has one. Kind of feels like Lego wants people to have a jail break be a subtheme...

Retro Lego: Broadside's Brig 1991
Small Imperial Soldiers set. Maybe meant as an add-on to the original Eldorado Fortress, it has a jail and a guard post and not much else. Still, nice little set.

...I have just realized that I'm going to have to shift this whole build at least one 16x16 plate to the left and add more ocean. Gonna be hard to dock a ship in what is there without knocking it to the floor... π€¦ββοΈ

Lagoon Lock-Up is going to be a nice start for the Island Colony build, but instead of a prison, it is going to be the office/storage warehouse for the colony's harbormaster (with some additions and modifications). Just need more dock space and a crane for unloading cargo.

5 minifigures, lots of play features. The beach in my first post is eventually going to be the starting setup for a Pirates-themed build. I've been playing a game called Whiskerwood on Steam recently. Basically Timberborn with mice in the Age of Sail. Which I will build in Lego using normal figs.

Time for Retro Lego Lookback!
In 1991, the second run of Pirate theme sets came out, and I missed out on most of them because I was distracted by other things.
I should not have access to ebay. Below is set 6267, the Lagoon Lock-Up. Picked up from ebay recently. Bigger than I expected. Nice set.

Life... is not a beach. It is an ocean, and sometimes you have to build your own beach.
So I did. Well, I started to, anyway... kind of ran out of tan plates for the time being, so until I can order more this won't change much.
