He could have taught himself BASIC in 10 minutes.
I got a 68. That’s a Dodge Dart.
Claude has his good days and his bad days. One day he refactored a complex fog system, added features and threading, and it worked the first time. The next day he didn‘t even look at the file I uploaded, asked to see a function that was in there, then spit out some half-baked crap. Such a diva.
84 years ago today. Japan’s largest strike force of the entire war: Akagi, Kaga, Soryu, Hiryu, Shokaku, and Zuikaku. I think I should add it to Midway 1981 as a what-if scenario. What if the Enterprise, Lexington, and Saratoga were in the area? What if the old battleships weren’t sunk at anchor?
Midway 1981 is 50% off during the Steam Autumn Sale!

Apple’s Game Center quirks:
* Most of the time the call-backs are called from the main thread but sometimes they are called from a background thread.
* When you set the delegate after creating a match it can deliver any pending messages instantly as a side effect of the assignment.

Claude.ai actually makes programming fun. It’s like an eager puppy wanting to join you for a walk every day. An AI companion that is smart, fast, and very complimentary.

The end of the Saratoga at Operation Crossroads.
83 years ago today. The Yorktown under attack at the Battle of Midway.
I’m finding the AIs can be frustrating because they are so divergent. They’ll throw stuff away and break things and go off on tangents. It’s like herding cats if you give them 6 files and several thousand lines to work on.
I’m old and retired so I can write games that don’t sell, and I have been. ;)
A nice review on Steam.
“Awesome that this game is finally back! We used to play it non-stop back in the day. There are tons of settings and variations in the two-player arcade mode 🔥”
Midway 1981 on Steam!
Nobody needs more than 64K of memory.
Midway 1981 is available on the App Store and it will coming soon to Windows on Steam!
I run-length encoded a map of the Pacific.
The Battle of Midway is now free to play! Unlock the other 5 carrier battles of the Pacific War to experience all the action!
Now available on iPad! Requires a hardware keyboard,
The Lexington and Saratoga off Honolulu. The Royal Hawaiian hotel is the largest building on Waikiki.
The Hornet in October 1941. She would be sunk a year later at the Battle of Santa Cruz.
The Lexington off Waikiki in 1933
A carrier and three heavy cruisers in a gun battle with Tulagi.
For my upcoming game I vectorized a hand-drawn pre-war map with Inkscape. After adjusting the line thickness to my liking, I exported it as a png and run-length encoded it into ASCII. MAGA!
Claude.ai is remarkably helpful. It wrote some C, C++ and Swift for me. It’s good with geometry and most coding problems. It couldn’t write an A* pathfinder to save its life, but it was able to point me to an excellent open source one.
How retro are you? I’m going full MAGA - Make ASCII Great Again!
I love how monstrous keyboards were in the 80s!
