CFL Retaliatory Tariffs:

If an American WR player misses a catch on 2nd Down, it’s turnover on downs

American players can only have one number on their jersey

We don’t acknowledge the CBS deal exists and complain there’s no American broadcast deal

TSN refers to the NFL as “those other dorks”

In protest of the tariffs, I will be watching the Grey Cup on February 9th.

CFL teams should send a huge batch of a draft picks jerseys to their former school for the schools respective sport merch shops to sell.

My guess is it’s gotta be somewhere in the time frame of 1996-1998.

I would argue (biasedly) that it’s the last mainstream platform where discussion can be had and moderation is dependent on the subject instead of blanket rules (outside TOS).

It has its issues naturally. But it has a head start in the community aspect of social.

Great article. But you missed a whole layer on the amateur level with things like the Football Canada Cup, IFAF World Juniors, U18 Women’s National Championship, etc.

So much of Canada’s football infrastructure is underneath everything you listed and deserves some investigation!

Y’all have a bullshit partnership with Reddit that you don’t utilize but want to shut down your teams ability to investigate alternative platforms to meet your fans where they are.

My advice for people who find value in social media is to seek out a community for your very special interest and immerse yourself in it.

You will remember why you love interacting and conversing with people when you’re not constantly shoved random extremist content in tandem with your interests.

LinkedIn: I’ve lied to enough HR people’s faces about how excited I was about the company ON company time, and yall are out there doing it for free?

Instagram: their core user base does not post anymore. The user base they’re trying to court rejects them for a wide variety of (valid) reasons

Threads: zero activation potential

Bluesky: has promise but too early to tell

Let me break down some harsh realities about the current mainstream social media platforms:

Facebook: is AI slop. Outside of marketplace and groups (COMMUNITY) the platform is at best. This is the Vestigial organ of social media platforms.

X: don’t get me started

Why?

Your algorithms are now not working in your favour. If you don’t have a space for your most hardcore fanbases to exist and connect free from outside distractions, you very easily either lose control of your narrative or have to compromise your brand/creative vision to fit the guardrails.

I made a lot of my bread and butter in the whole marketing profession by being a very good observer of culture

I am begging brands at this point to start focusing on two things:

Community building
Community alignment

If you do these two things you will weather the current digital space shit storm

It turns out that my family’s real last name, unbeknownst to all of us for almost 200 years…

…was Stach.

You have all unknowingly (myself included) been calling me by my real last name for over a decade.

My research led me to looking through the obvious names. With suffix’s like oski, ow, etc

Today I found out I was looking in the exact wrong direction. Nothing was ever removed from my last name to make it Germanized, something was added.

I have always know my last name was changed at some point to become Germanized, and I’ve spent decades looking for what it originally was (Polish records are a mix of Russian, Latin, German, Polish and sometimes Austrian… so tough to do any research haha)
