It’s just like them saying everything illegal is being done because of a national security threat. It dilutes the meaning until they can do whatever they want.
Now that SCOTUS has sided against Trump on tariffs, say it with me:
In my daily health journal I sometimes put “Not great Bob” next to my daily brain work line. It just occurred to me that anyone reading that (who is not familiar with the phrase) could infer that I was calling myself by a different name. Or a separate personality. 🤪
As a former advocate for survivors of domestic violence, I cannot describe how much it pains me to hear the Vice President say we owe a debt of gratitude to man who shot a woman in the face and then called her a fucking bitch.
You are worthy of the same kindness, grace, and support you give others. 💙
This thread of Mamdani’s speech is so wonderful.
The optics of Trump building a ballroom that 99.9% of Americans will never set foot in while millions line up for food banks are worth more than any policy paper or economic proposal. This image is a visceral punch in the mouth that needs no words. It should haunt the GOP for a generation.
Stay strong, Senator. They’re hoping you will fall for the threats.
My grandfather, who was a WWII vet and staunch republican, would be horrified at the “speech”. Disgraceful.
Perfect image for this moment -- Pete Hegseth wasted millions of dollars flying military leaders from across the globe to hear him blather about gender-neutral physical fitness standards and appearance, and the chryon in the corner notes the government is about to shut down.
Don't give in. Let this be laid at their feet and tell everyone.
I keep reading this as Pokémon
This is good: With Trump/RFK destroying CDC, JB Pritzker's officials are exploring the possibility of buying Covid vaccines from manufacturers and distributing them in-state themselves, source tells me.
Dem govs must step up and fill the void.
New piece from me:

Not only is our new acting director of the CDC NOT a scientist, but he also has deep ties to Peter Thiel and Silicon Valley’s techno-utopia movement.
One epidemiologist compared Jim O’Neill’s appointment to “making Elon Musk head of the FAA.”
@billkristolbulwark.bsky.social: It's not backsliding, it's a march to dictatorship.
Only @thebulwark.com
Or they could just do it by executive order like Dump does everything.
First, Donald Trump used the Marines and the National Guard to support his mass deportation agenda in Los Angeles.
Now, he's using similar tactics in D.C. like a tinpot dictator.
Don't look away. Don't stay silent. If you do, don't be surprised if it's your city next.
That’s gaudy as hell.
Trump's raw authoritarian power grab in DC is part of a growing national crisis. He's playing dictator in our nation's capital as a dress rehearsal as he pushes democracy to the brink.
This assault on freedom is exactly why we've fought for DC statehood and to give DC control of its National Guard.
And by the way, Trump couldn't care less about safety in DC or the people of DC. If he did, he wouldn't have blocked DC from spending $1 billion of its OWN money to fund its OWN police department, schools and more.
This is flatly about testing the limits of his power.
They mentioned Northern Virginia a few times with no detail. I wonder what they’re going to try here. Youngkin has been quiet lately.
I think Martial Law will happen much sooner than that.
Trump is invoking Section 740 of the D.C. Home Rule Act, which authorizes him to seize control of the entire DC police department for a maximum of 30 days.
This is insane stuff. D.C. is not in the grip of a crime wave. Crime has been falling for three years now. Violent crime is at a 30-year low.
For anyone who isn’t clear this is straight from the authoritarian playbook.
None of these idiots has ever been outside Northwest DC.
Every news broadcast should run the facts split-screen in real time while Trump spews his lies.
Nice work, @msnbc.com — every network had time to prepare because they knew what was coming.
ENGELMEYER: Any person "who reviewed these materials expecting, based on the Government’s representations, to learn new information about Epstein’s and Maxwell’s crimes and the investigation into them, would come away feeling disappointed and misled. There is no 'there' there."
