• A law requiring those who select contractors to put in writing that they have no conflict of interest in the companies they select for services
• Certain background check requirements for people working as corrections officers
• Rules requiring public announcements of government agency purchases
• Competitive negotiation requirements to ensure selected contractors are the most qualified option
• Requirements to post contract bids online so that potential vendors can apply
• Additional competitive bidding requirements for contracts over $35,000
• Requirements that state-contracted air ambulances meet basic life support standards
• Mandatory oversight teams for contracts over $5 million
• Permitting requirements for portable restrooms
• And a rule blocking senior managers from charging taxpayers overtime pay
Nowhere has the ability to skirt those laws been more explicit than in the Alligator Alcatraz immigration detention center in the Everglades, which has been constructed, funded and operated through emergency contracts, including to politically connected companies.
At least three of the state contractors involved in Alligator Alcatraz have given money to DeSantis or the state's Republican Party, according to Herald/Times reporting.

DeSantis is about to extend his “state of emergency” over immigration for the 19th time.

This started in 2023.

It enables him to suspend all kinds of laws and regulations he doesn’t like—many of them on issues (like porta-pottys ) unrelated to immigration. ⤵️

David Jolly’s Bid to Break Florida’s Red Streak – The Tampa Post

Florida school voucher audit warns of deepening financial chaos An audit on the Florida's Family Empowerment Scholarship for the 2024-25 school year found a 'myriad of accountability challenges'

On any given day, $270m in Florida school choice funding cannot be accounted for.

This Governor cavalierly chased an ideological narrative and abandoned Florida's families and taxpayers.

Time for a new Governor.

Now, over 4 million Floridians could see their monthly premiums double. Our families are already having a hard time paying for necessities. We need to fight to make healthcare more affordable, not less.

I’m proud to have been joined last night by former U.S. Navy officer Heather Beaven, retired U.S. Army officer David McDonald, retired Lt. Col. A crucial way to thank veterans for their service is to listen to their advice and learn from their experience, and that’s exactly what I’ll do as governor.
