That is a really rough spot to be in, for sure.

If, however, the misery doesn't stem from writing but from drowning in advice that doesn't work for you, maybe the answer is to stop reading advice?

It is 100% okay to not do something that makes you miserable.

There are very few people I wish misery on and feel reasonably confident you aren't one of them, so urge doing what will make you happy.

I nearly changed Bex's sibling's name from Esh when I realized how close that is to Ets, but decided it would be more fun if ze declared Etsian zir name twin.

Doubt readers will confuse adorable 4yo with huge bouncer-like guy with massive raven wings. They're pretty distinct in speech and behavior

Some characters have been through a lot of name changes. Others appeared with one and kept it.

My names don't ever MEAN anything, but sometimes I'll decide they vibe wrong or are too close to another character's name.

Typically I could change them w/out losing much but am attached to some of them.

As for cold drinks, iced herbal teas are the thing you'll see everyone sipping during a Niaretya summer. The Quiet Yetsona Teashop will be experimenting with tea slushies in Book 3 or 4.

If you go to the Rabbit, there's plenty of cold beer and Bex makes a mean mojito.

As for feelings on heat... VIl's an ice elemental. Everyone participates in winter sports. And Etsian's heat intolerance is even worse than Vil's because he lacks the magic to create ice. It's safe to say no one in this series thus far is a big fan of warm weather except for one of the antagonists.

The characters in Harmony don't have much day/night preference, although Vil doesn't like sunny days while Yuri appreciates natural light to paint by.

A Melody of Shining Stars has a lead who's a darkness elemental and another with an intolerance for sunlight. So those two definitely prefer night.

Going to do a quick series of posts talking about last night's #QueerWritersChat since I missed it.

First off: the only thing I like about summer is that it doesn't last forever. Otherwise, I completely despise it. (I'm allergic to sunlight and heat intolerant. Summer can bite me.)

Protests here feel a lot like preaching to the choir, but are rather affirming and have value for that reason.

As someone who's been bitten multiple times, I can certainly relate to the fear.

This is largely how I feel about dogs. The German Shepard I live with and sometimes share images of is 100% my wife's doing. 🙂

I also feel that International Cat Day is a great time to mention that Yves, one of the three leads in A Melody of Shining Stars, is a catkin who can shift into a fully feline form.

Note to self: get around to commissioning some character art.
