Runner-up in the National Embroidery Awards 2025.
“Offence” commemorates the 120th anniversary of the start of militant Suffragette action with the initials of 120 imprisoned women. The collar work recreates that on a handkerchief stitched in Holloway Prison by Pankhurst’s “Bold Bad Ones” in 1912.

Congratulations
@embroiderthetruth.bsky.social 🥰❤️🍀🌟🪡🧵🎊

I love this embroided piece of art so much - and I have only seen a picture of it.

So much talent, skill, imagination and tenacity goes into producing a piece of artwork like this one. Truly awesome!

Oh, I love a good pun 😅
It’s a stunning ceiling and I carried pics of it on my phone for a couple of years before the right project came along and I could do it some kind of justice

Today was hand-in day for my advanced Goldwork module and I wasn’t taking any chances. So my tribute to Madonna’s iconic Jean-Paul Gaultier corset is safely ensconced in a padded Hermès box in the hopes the fashion gods are suitably appeased and will reward me with bountiful marks 🙏

I think attitudes are changing but our skill is still not valued, the studio rate in the uk for professional freelance embroiderers is little more than the minimum wage. Absolutely this stems from the “women’s work” attitude and I find it soul-destroying. But I will continue to fight the good fight!

Thank you so much Erika, this comment has made my day!
Traditionally goldwork at the RSN has been taught as a set wheat-sheaf spray design (as seen on coronation robes) but this year we were given free reign, which I was delighted about as goldwork is such a great technique when used imaginatively 🪡

Thank you. It was intense, taking around 160 hours to complete!

Thank you so much. The brief we are given at the RSN specifies the inclusion of many different stitches and this seemed the perfect place in the design to add round eyelets!

”Death Blowing Bubbles” is my Fine Whitework study of part of the ornamental ceiling of the Holy Grave Chapel in Michaelsberg Abbey, Germany. Here Death is depicted blowing bubbles to symbolise the fragility of life, which I think is perfectly reflected in the delicate nature of Whitework 🪡

Over the summer I stitched a collection of Lover’s Eye pieces based on Georgian miniature mourning and sweetheart portraits, using the Tapestry Shading technique often referred to as Needle Painting.
They are currently for sale in my Etsy shop with a 25% discount:
