Frosty. There's a travel lockdown in my state, and I have a gastro doc appointment tomorrow. Fingers crossed that I won't need to reschedule.

New Jersey is the reason that Monopoly has a boardwalk space. Sometimes I'm proud of my home state.

Yeah, arcades may not be what they once were, but they aren't dead. And wandering through one definitely made me nostalgic.

But I can understand why they might add other stuff, like go-karts and mini-golf.

This doesn't feel authorized...

Though some of these games forget their arcade lineage. 🫤

Not trying to come off as an elitist capital-G Gamer, but it feels wrong for a fighting game, which helped build the arcades of old, settle for adapting a mobile interface that could easily accommodate a proper old-school arcade stick.

And people say arcades are dead. Look at these modern franchises!

This feels like an unfortunate arcade relic.

Ouch. I had a pretty small stone that was ready to pass by the time they did the MRI on me. I was lucky, though my back still hurt that day until I got home.

I was reading an article about the cancellation of food aid to Minnesota, and it reminded me of a story about my dad. He was a vet, an organizer and very deeply involved in his church. And one day he stood up and asked a question: “what the f*ck’s the point of having a church?”

The extent to which Games Done Quick has helped to steer the larger speedrunning community - one of the most hardcore video game enthusiast subcultures there is - into becoming something so welcoming, inclusive and supportive astonishes me
