Thin point felt-tip pens for thin lines, details or pupils? Completely legal.

There's no such thing as cheating, do what works for you and gives a result you like. Drybrushing is great. A simple sepia wash over nearly any base colour looks like magic and helps you see anything you might want to highlight. Fine line pens are useful. Don't bother about eyes yet.
