Not reflective of my views, but this is the reality of what a majority of the public are thinking π

01.03.2026 18:31 β π 19 π 0 π¬ 5 π 0Labour are not trying to compete with Reform. They are addressing immigration concerns held by a majority in the country, but doing so within ECHR constraints. There are many reasons why Labour are unpopular (media bias for one), but a drastic change of course on this issue would not help.

As a regular 5k runner, it's difficult to comprehend how someone can WALK the distance 4 minutes faster than my personal best running time!! π²

My argument was to show you the dictionary definition of neoliberalism (the actual opposite of Labour policies!)....but you know that.
28.02.2026 17:33 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Generally I get that, but it was widely reported that Gorton & Denton was likely to be a 3 way fight. Every vote mattered. The FPTP excuse just didn't apply in that by election.
28.02.2026 16:42 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Fair enough if you think Starmer should go, but calling his approach "neoliberalism" is nonsense.
28.02.2026 16:36 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Hull deserved nothing from the game, but they somehow sloped off with 3 points. Unfortunately I've seen so many similar games at Fratton Park over the years, but they don't get any easier to take. βΉοΈ #Pompey
28.02.2026 16:29 β π 8 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Because of course, if you have no interest in politics, you won't be affected by decisions that elected representatives make (e.g. tax, public services, benefits, transport, health, etc). Is that really what they're thinking? π€

Happy 86th birthday to motorsport legend Mario Andretti. You made a 17 year old Team Lotus fan very happy in 1978 when winning the #F1 world championship πππ
28.02.2026 08:36 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'm happy that Reform didn't win. If I was in the constituency, I might well have tactically voted Green, despite being broadly supportive of the current Government. I wonder how many of the 52% who didn't vote are actually just content with Labour and didn't think it necessary to participate?

Perhaps the problem for Labour ISN'T the policy area that many on the left obsess over? π€

27.02.2026 21:16 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0In the UK, polling stations are open from 7am until 10pm on election day. Regardless of work, everybody has opportunity to vote.
27.02.2026 19:41 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The thread is about electoral turnout. We all have a vote. In that respect, I'm no luckier or unluckier than anyone else.
27.02.2026 17:57 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0What, the cost of getting to the polling station? You could try walking?
27.02.2026 17:49 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Of course I understand that people have been disillusioned. That's why the Tories were voted out after 14 years of chaos. That's why we have a Labour Government that's imperfect but is gradually turning things around. It's all been achieved by people voting, not by apathy.
27.02.2026 17:31 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0There will always be problems. Pick the person you think will be less bad if you like. Just don't pretend it's someone else's problem. Get involved and VOTE!
27.02.2026 13:06 β π 1 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0It was a protest vote in a constituency where Gaza matters more to voters than local issues, cost of living, etc and turnout was less than 50%. One off tactical voting (to stop Reform) also boosted the green vote. When it really matters in the 2029 election, Labour will win the seat back.
27.02.2026 13:02 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 2Ok, but it doesn't answer my question.
27.02.2026 12:49 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I get what you're saying (the appalling Suella Braverman is my MP with a comfortable majority), but for Gorton & Denton, it was widely broadcast that it might be a close, 3 way fight. I don't think voters there can claim they didn't realise it would be close.
27.02.2026 10:49 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Just 47.6% turnout in Gorton & Denton, despite all the publicity surrounding such a high profile by election. What makes over half of the electorate just hand over responsibility for selecting their MP to others? I bet they're the first to complain when there's a problem. I just don't understand it
