Absolutely. It has ingested all the GCC source code, written by actually sapient humans capable of writing compilers, and has built a new version of that in another language (Rust). It's a translation of human efforts, which would be impossible without the original results of those human efforts.

I'm very critical of AI hype and how it's being used to destroy the lives of millions of workers, and it's pretty incontrovertible that LLMs are a dead end as far as AGI goes, but this is a pretty impressive achievement nonetheless.
