Speaking of fx, I'm curious how much of the problem is also directors, producers, or sfx supervisors wanting to use CGI for everything even when practical effects would work or even look better. I think CGI creates false confidence you can change things during production more quickly/easily.

I think the trap of "safe bets" is that it convinces them they can and should green light these massive budgets, when in fact they should not. But low budget horror movies are very profitable, even with good looking effects, because they don't go nuts (and as you say, not pay actors $20m to star).

Honestly my favorite detail from the original.
