When drivers inch forward or rev their engines to get a pedestrian to go quicker they are saying, "You don't belong here." They are using their cars to intimidate others. A pedestrian has just as much right to the roadway as a driver does.

i see a lot of folks posting variations of, "dems won't do anything if they win! they'll just return to the same old same old!" but, speaking from personal experience, the failures of biden and the extreme nature of the current trump admin have caused many in the staffer class to go absolutely rabid

I grew up in an almost identical church community (I think our pastors actually knew one another) and it is so great to see lefty Presbyterianism getting its flowers for once!!!

Well both platforms are now owned by interests loyal to the US right wing, so maybe not.

Someone in NYC should do interviews with middle-school kids who take the subway to and from school every day, to see if they have any advice for Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy who can't seem to go a single day without pissing himself in fear over them.

Idk man, could be that a bunch of 19-year-olds who were too young to cut their teeth on the eruptions in 2020 got organized in 2024-25, and then were battered mercilessly by police officers with batons and guns. They got expelled, suspended, sent to detention camps. That does something to someone

I’m a shitlib who enthusiastically voted for Harris and have conflicting feelings about the Uncommitted movement, but it’s March 2026 and I think we might have bigger fish to fry at the moment than berating people over a failed tactic from two years ago

I’d respond to you in earnest but I have a feeling you’d rather sneer at the youths for being upset about the state of the world

Among the other problems with this incredible take is that in addition to the chilling effect of violence, the last 14 months has seen an executive assault on public higher education. Grants have been pulled, university presidents have been run out, and campus groups have been shuttered.

Respectfully, eat shit. Those kids were expelled, arrested, and targeted relentlessly by their school administrations with the specific goal of preventing further protest. Eighteen year old kids were held down and maced by campus security, hit point blank with tear gas canisters by riot cops.

Like, did outside forces take advantage of the situation? Of course, but most of these young people were rightfully pretty distressed about all of war crimes they could see every time they picked up their phone

Cosign all of Jonny's writing here, I occasionally cover the sports betting industry and consider myself reasonably well-informed about how it works, and there were several entire chapters in this book where I was just, like, holy shit, I had no idea, man

Remembering the USMNT win v Iran in 2022. Several Iranian players were devastated, weeping on the pitch. More than one of our guys sat there and held them while they cried. It went beyond graciousness in victory; it was pure human empathy. That's how the beautiful game is supposed to be, YET NOW

I’m sorry, the suffering is infinite and things are genuinely fucking dire, but it is truly hilarious that the nazis ran into the middle east while screaming “logistics and diplomacy are fake and gay” and now they’re trying to ask everyone else to fix the strait of hormuz because tfw no more THAADs

The next day, she was put in a jail cell. She met a woman there who had been arrested for allegedly assaulting a federal officer. The woman told Martinez that she’d gone to a protest because “some girl got shot.” Martinez realized that she was that girl. Then, days later, the government asked to drop the case. The judge dismissed the charges with prejudice, meaning that the case cannot be retried. It was an abrupt reversal. “Put that in your books, Exum,” Martinez said in front of television cameras in the courthouse lobby. Still, that day, D.H.S. released another statement calling Martinez a domestic terrorist. The next night, she went to dinner with the woman she had met in jail. Martinez had remembered her being “so bubbly, so full of energy.” Now the woman seemed changed. She told Martinez that, although the charges against her had been dropped, she was struggling. At times, she was on high alert that she would encounter federal agents again. Martinez went home that night but was unable to sleep.

This New Yorker profile of Marimar Martinez--the US citizen CBP shot who survived--includes the friendship she made w/woman she met in jail who had protested her own shooting.

A google maps view of the area around the Strait of Hormuz, with crude markup showing the 4 steps to successfully clearing the strait:

1. Build up speed
2. Hit Trampoline
3. Cool backflip
4. Nail the landing

The boat is illustrated using a clip art yacht, and the trampoline is also just kind of floating there.

wait. wait. everyone hold on. i've solved it

Desperately calling "Why won't you insure the ships filled with flammables that have to go through the bombing gauntlet!"

Also tough sell to a tanker owner for a ship that isn't exactly built in a day "Hey man, it's insured!"

Tougher sell to the crew.

So many red state races are something like..

Democrat: War hero with a master's degree in public policy who was caught on camera running into a burning building to rescue orphans.
Republican: Adjudicated sex pest who inherited dad's car dealership.

Election result: R +18
