A friend is building an app to help immigrants detained by ICE.

They're a web app dev & need help with the mobile app.

Anyone have experience building/deploying mobile apps and interested in volunteering time to help a new app with a good cause?

Feel free to share with others or boost for reach.

"We will publish the system prompts" is a huge red herring and should set off alarm bells. The evidence points to the South Africa Genocide prompt being slid into an injected "post analysis", not the system prompt, so this transparency appears deliberately misleading.

From the OpenAI community on Reddit: elon musk is trying to censor Grok 3. which the thoughts feature conveniently manages to entirely bypass. Explore this post and more from the OpenAI community

I am shocked - shocked! - that the Based Maximally Truthseeking Grok has been explicitly instructed to lie about politically sensitive topics. www.reddit.com/r/OpenAI/s/C...

Excerpt from a public letter Roald Dahl wrote encouraging people to vaccinate their children.

Olivia, my eldest daughter, caught measles when she was seven years old. As the illness took its usual course I can remember reading to her often in bed and not feeling particularly alarmed about it. Then one morning, when she was well on the road to recovery, I was sitting on her bed showing her how to fashion little animals out of coloured pipe-cleaners, and when it came to her turn to make one herself, I noticed that her fingers and her mind were not working together and she couldn’t do anything.

“Are you feeling all right?” I asked her.

“I feel all sleepy,” she said.

In an hour, she was unconscious. In twelve hours she was dead.

The measles had turned into a terrible thing called measles encephalitis and there was nothing the doctors could do to save her. That was twenty-four years ago in 1962, but even now, if a child with measles happens to develop the same deadly reaction from measles as Olivia did, there would still be nothing the doctors could do to help her.

On the other hand, there is today something that parents can do to make sure that this sort of tragedy does not happen to a child of theirs. They can insist that their child is immunized against measles. I was unable to do that for Olivia in 1962 because in those days a reliable measles vaccine had not been discovered. Today a good and safe vaccine is available to every family and all you have to do is to ask your doctor to administer it.

The measles outbreak in Texas is reminding me of the public letter Roald Dahl wrote about losing his daughter to measles in 1962, just before the vaccine was publicly available.

And being charitable: selling voters isn't just about getting credit for the solution, it's a required part of the solution. The complete ineffectiveness of an internal GAO report showing recommendations for sustained marginal improvement demonstrates that only something more radical could work.

Hard to listen to Andreesen talking to Lex about how everyone can speak their mind now, while praising Dr Oz transparently just to curry favor with Trump et al. "Free Speech" doesn't imply "True Speech", apparently.

Crypto has made it such that the right kind of celebrity can just say "I would like loads of your money please" and their followers will say "yes sure ok" and nobody thinks this is disreputable.

If everyone switches from the murkily CCP-controlled TikTok to the explicitly CCP-controlled RedNote then I, a lib, will feel owned.

Grr I hate this TikTok storyline so much. It's not clear exactly what each party's strategy is but I'm certain we're getting grifted by _both_ the GOP and the CCP.

Running in the cloud is far more energy efficient than locally because you can use larger batch sizes, your hardware can be much more optimized, no weights swapping, etc. The data transfer is negligible in comparison.

LLMs don't use significant energy <-> data centers powering LLMs use too much energy... huh?

There's a _lot_ California can be doing to mitigate this better aside from stopping climate change - we are also fucking up on controlled burns, brush clearing, power modernization, exurban building patterns...

What's with everyone donating to the Trump Inauguration Fund specifically? Is it easy to funnel money from that to Trump? Would he otherwise spend his own money on it so a donation is effectively going straight to him? Is it just demonstrating willingness to do costly signalling?

The Xmas->NYE period is the time of year where I completely lose track of days of the week. "Friday" has no meaning; today is only the "27th".

Yes, it is a 100% real digital display of a pixel interpretation of a copy of bytes stored on a CDN representing a downscaled derivative of a digital photograph of a famous painting of a pipe.
