ヒトやウニなどは二細胞胚でばらばらになると双子になります。この場合も同じように発生するのでしょうか?ウニの場合、球状に発生する正常胚と異なり、半分胚はシート状→カップ状→球状へと“自律的“に変形するのに伴い、それまでの「前」と「後」が接触します。すると、「後」で Wnt/β-カテニンが一過的に“再点火“し、新しい「前」が「後」の対極に再配置され、最終的に「半分」から“完全な胚“が再構築されます。つまり、正常胚で使われる既存の仕組みを再利用して軸情報を再編成する——これが双生児が正常個体に育つ理由の一端です。(@urchin_lab)
