Body-camera video of a Border Patrol agent involved in the shooting of a woman who was allegedly chasing agents in Brighton Park over the weekend shows an officer saying, “Do something, bitch,” before pulling over and shooting the woman five times, the woman’s attorney said in federal court Monday.

The video appears to contradict the government’s allegation that Marimar Martinez, 30, drove toward officers before one of them opened fire at her late Saturday morning on Kedzie Avenue near 39th Street, her attorney, Christopher Parente, said at a detention hearing at the Dirksen Federal Courthouse.

Parente said the video shows an agent turn federal vehicle left into Martinez’s vehicle, after which an agent says, “Do something bitch.” The agent then exits the vehicle and shoots at Martinez.

Parente said Martinez has “seven holes” in her from the shooting and that agents were in such a hurry to take her into custody at the hospital that they had to return later when Martinez began bleeding from her wounds.

Parente disputed the government’s claim that Martinez is a danger to the community and should be detained, saying instead that the officer who shot her was a threat.

“I think there’s a danger to the community, but I don’t think it’s Ms. Martinez,” he said.

A trucker at the shop called 911 as workers frantically grabbed blue shop towels and patches to place on her wounds, the manager said. The shop manager called 911 and said, “Send somebody quick because this lady is bleeding profusely. ... I mean, it was instant puddles.”

Police and paramedics showed up a few minutes later, he said. As paramedics placed tourniquets on Martinez’s leg and arm, a bullet fell out of her arm and onto the shop’s floor, the manager said. She left in an ambulance. FBI investigators then arrived, placing red tape around the area where Martinez had sat and around her car, the manager said.

To no one's surprise, ICE lied.

ICE rammed Martinez's vehicle, before shooting her MULTIPLE times with live rounds. A bullet fell out of her arm while she was being given first aid at an oil change shop.

Martinez is a US citizen w/a CC license.

The woman who was shot had been identified last week in a U.S. Customs and Border Protection bulletin for allegedly publicly identifying agents and encouraging people to attack them and disrupt enforcement actions, McLaughlin said.

ICE / DHS shot a woman in Chicago because she has been working to identify the secret police behind the masks. According to the @chicago.suntimes.com story it sounds like federal agents used live rounds as the victim needed to be brought to the hospital.

this was called Cohost—not enough people used it or spent money on it relative to the amount of money it cost to (1) pay its 4 employees a living wage for their labor; and (2) keep the site running, so it died, nothing like it has taken its place at the scale it existed, and now we're here

This is all complete nonsense. How are they building the capacity? Who is paying for it? Data centers take two and a half years a gigawatt. No real money has changed hands! Bullshit galore

I visited the apartment building ICE raided on Tuesday today. Story to come, but you can walk right in. Half of the apartments have no doors on them. Children's stuff abandoned in some flats. *Citizen* residents told me they were arrested and held for hours in zipties. This is America

It'll never be lost on me that a particular subset of the liberal commentariat in both North America and Western Europe were deeply infatuated with this woman up until the very moment she decided to talk about that one issue you're still basically not allowed to talk about lol.

I collect pictures of gate latches. The endless minute variations and human ingenuity appeal to me greatly, and the countless hands that have moved them. This one is between Near and Far Sawrey, Lake District and has a lovely combination of textures between the iron, wooden gate, and stone gatepost.

So much to mourn here. ICE shot and killed a single father just after he has dropped his two kids off at daycare. Their justification for stopping him was traffic violations form 12 years ago. Their justification for shooting him was that he was driving away.

A completely needless tragedy.

When I’m accused of “technopessimism“ I counter that I’m not “pessimistic about technology“; I am opposed to the economic, political, and social project of upward wealth transfer that “AI” is being leveraged to bring about. If that phrasing is useful to others, then go ahead and use it.

I had never heard of this Players Era Festival until today.
The fact that this can exist is, to me, the first point in a series of events that that leads to NIL being used as a legal way for private equity/PIF to get money into the NCAA.

This was revealing. Worth reading. The basic demand is that Coates spend less time thinking/writing his true feelings and more time playing political strategist. Klein asks him over and over him to do Dem strategy; he says no, over and over. www.nytimes.com/2025/09/28/o...

I wish I could get cis people who see how rightfully terrified people are of what is being said about autistic people, and what will come next, is the fear trans people have been living with for a decade.

AMERICAN ANTHROPOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION

The first ethical principle in AAA's Principles of Professional Responsibility is to "Do no harm." The session was rejected because it relied on assumptions that run contrary to the settled science in our discipline, framed in ways that do harm to vulnerable members of our community. It commits one of the cardinal sins of scholarship-it assumes the truth of the proposition that it sets out to prove, namely, that sex and gender are simplistically binary, and that this is a fact with meaningful implications for the discipline.

Such efforts contradict scientific evidence, including the wealth of anthropological scholarship on gender and sex. Forensic anthropologists talk about using bones for "sex estimation," not "sex identification," a process that is probabilistic rather than clearly determinative, and that is easily influenced by cognitive bias on the part of the researcher. Around the world and throughout human history, there have always been people whose gender roles do not align neatly with their reproductive anatomy. There is no single biological standard by which all humans can be reliably sorted into a binary male/female sex classification. On the contrary, anthropologists and others have long shown sex and gender to be

American Association of Biological Anthropologists

AABA Statement in Support of Trans Lives
The American Association of Biological Anthropologists, the American Association of Anthropological Genetics, the Dental Anthropology Association, the Paleopathology Association, The PaleoAnthropology Society, the Biological Anthropology Section of the American Anthropological Association, and the Human Biology Association stand together against the escalating legislation and governance in the United States and across the globe that attacks the existence of transgender, non-binary, and gender-diverse peoples. We affirm the power of all persons to make the ultimate decisions over what happens to our/their own bodies. We oppose legislation that is rooted in and maintains rigid binary conceptions of sex and gender which impact reproductive justice and access to care for everyone. We condemn the biological essentialism driving much of this legislation. As biological anthropologists, we condemn the historical role of our discipline in producing binaries of sex, gender, and sexuality and are committed to work that enacts a more livable world. We condemn discrimination and denial of healthcare for youth and adults, including care that is gender and life affirming. We stand for the lives of transgender, non-binary, gender and sex diverse, and queer communities.
This statement was authored by Samantha Archer, Zachary DuBois, Alexandra Kralick, and Rick Smith; was unanimously accepted by the AABA Executive Committee; and was concurrently approved by the Executive Committees of the AAAG, DAA, PPA, PAS, AAA BAS, and HBA in November, 2023.

they all keep saying transphobia is 'reasonable concerns' or 'common sense' while completely ignoring what scientists have to say
