Wow! Fabulous music which I discovered long after they’d disbanded. Sue Tompkins’ vocals make one’s ears go weak at the knees … (A studio version of that live track only came out recently …

I’m working through that vol, too. Interesting, as well, the people MP draws into orbit - Stevens, Olson, Zukofsky, Creeley, Coolidge, the Waldrops, Peter Gizzi, Lisa Fishman … to name but a few …

For me, not wish-washy - more impacted. Difficult to get a grip on what motivates his work. So much seems sealed off. But I’m persevering with Echo Lake

I have puzzled my head a lot about Blake’s Newton. I appreciate more how he is working collage & textual sources. A valid question is what motivates the choices? Also certain poems seem utterly closed off. Mind you, after Marjorie Welish he can seem almost lush

Indeed - Wham! Palmer. (I recall Lisa Jarnot saying he was nicknamed The Professor - reflecting his high seriousness of manner.) Tackling Notes for Echo Lake anew … & finding much more to enjoy this time around. Great interview with Peter Gizzi in the Exact Change Yearbook

If you ever fancy posting thoughts on Michael Palmer … I’ve been spending a few days with his early vols & essays

Can’t remember the turn up … J5 … I see the logic but goes against my crib gut instinct to give a 15 away. J2 seemed a valid compromise

took a pause from copying bits from Thoreau’s Journal & stumbled upon your post. The Lisa Robertson essay is a timely delight! Thanks for the nudge. (β€œI now begin to pluck wild apples”)

the other morning, one flew straight towards me, banked & then settled up in a tree. I’ve counted four around the Tervuren lakes - my new early morning walk. Heron as spirit animal - a powerful messenger

only just dawned on me the resonance between Keats’ Grecian Urn and Duchamp’s large glass … a strange wedding of two brides

while watching The Great Gatsby film a student told me that she & her mum thought Redford looked like her dad - at which I smiled indulgently. Then, at the next PT conference I met him … she was right.

disappointed after yesterday’s Anne Carson multi media performance at the Bozar. Seemed to diminish her writing & I even had the impression she didn’t enjoy being there. Anyone else go?

the Kerouac vol is one of his best & I’d argue a CC ars poetica. It also sent me back to JK with new ears & open mind. CC on jazz is an education, too. I’m sure you’ll know his early Naropa lectures - love to hear him talk about Art Tatum etc.
