Olympic marathon gold for Sifan Hassanπ₯
16.12.2024 19:43 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0FEMKE BOL'S 400MH PROGRESSION
2019	55.32 (18yrs old)
2020	53.79 (19yrs old)
2021	52.03 (20yrs old)
2022	52.27 (21yrs old)
2022	52.27 (22yrs old)
2023	51.45 (23yrs old)
2024	50.95 (24yrs old)
With Femke always being benchmarked against Sydney, it can be easy to forget just how elite she is.
Ingen gjΓΈr det bedre! Long live Kingebrigtsen!
Another European XC gold to add to the collection this morning. Unmatched when it comes to churning through the gears/mud π
πGreat reminder, he'd have cruised it in '96!

06.12.2024 15:57 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0π€ Question for those who enjoy pondering Track and Field history:
Who is the greatest athlete to never win an Olympic Gold?
For me, it's the Welsh whippet, Colin Jackson. World Champ and World Record holder, both indoors and out!
Who would you pick?
And check out this magnificent 4Γ110MH!
Pick me! A little less professional than those listed but I try and post interesting musings on track and field
06.12.2024 14:53 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Absolutely flies once he gets going, and isn't too cool to celebrate. I'm a big fan already π

05.12.2024 16:33 β π 4 π 3 π¬ 0 π 0But also easy to apply the concept to other global sports.
03.12.2024 16:20 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yep, it's a benchmark distance for demonstrating speed in American Football. Having a track athlete do it in 4.15 shows a football crowd just how fast track athletes are...and hopefully piques their interest in athletics.
03.12.2024 16:18 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I'm all for cross-pollination when it comes to promoting athletics.
Put an athlete in a context that a sports crowd understand, and just let them be awed. This is a great example where the fans have an obvious benchmark to compare to.
V effective for T&F, a sport that's hard to contextualise.
So this is what I missed: "Once the finalists have been established, a fan vote will open β for all registered users of Inside Track β to help determine the overall World Athletes of the Year".
02.12.2024 18:57 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Haha yeh, the name sucks and WA have really crowbarred their name into it π But struggling to think of better, maybe the Ultimate Athletics Championship or just We Hate Field Events π
02.12.2024 18:35 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Maybe I'm missing something, but I can't understand how Mondo didn't win the overall Male Athlete of the Year.
His achievements are no lesser than Bolt's 9.58 and he's made PV a marquee event, even for generalists. Tebogo is class but not on Mondo's level, yet.
All feels a little calculated...
Valencia is a notoriously fast, flat-as-a-pancake course that always delivers!
And today was no different with Sebastian Sawe cantering to a 2:02:05 finish, the 5th fastest marathon in history. Better still, this was Sawe's debut over the distance πππ
Not a good read. I've watched the 6 or so seasons of Team Ingebrigtsen which ran from 2016-2021. From that, it's clear that Gjert is hyper controlling, obsessive and right on the line of acceptable, and that's with a film crew there. Can't imagine the fear when they weren't.
29.11.2024 14:27 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Haha this is classic! I never knew π€£
28.11.2024 18:08 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I agree, they do. But rivalries need to be more than 2 people flying down a track 4 times a year. There needs to be tension and a little bite, especially off the track. Top athletes rarely show enough personality to build an engaging story, something which @lylesnoah.bsky.social is very effective at
28.11.2024 16:20 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0But I suspect they'll just be fun one-off nights, filled with fast times, smiles and hugs, fireworks, influencers and Doja Cat (tbc). Entertaining enough, but not a compelling story to get new viewers invested in the sport in the long term.
What do you think?

I believe reduced format events (eg. Grand Slam Track) will work if they are able to create these stories/rivalries off the track. So that viewers are primed and excited when it comes to race day, like boxing fans come fight night.
