We've just added support for chapters in metacast.app. We support the chapters tag from RSS feed, parse time codes from descriptions or generate them w/ AI.

The end result - any episode has chapters with an easy-to-use, consistent UX. Try it and let us know what you think (we think you'll love it).

6/ We had our moments of mutual pain and even frustration with each other, but if you know that the person's core and ethics are compatible with yours, you can overcome all those challenges.

5/ I co-founded metacast.app with @arnab.metacast.app who I'd known for 8 years and worked with directly for 5.

4/ None of that is knowable ahead of time if you don't know the guy/gal and haven't worked with them. I've personally long hesitated to start something precisely because I didn't have anyone I could be confident in.

On our share pages, you can also go and listen the podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and YouTube. We're not limiting it to Metacast, because we're thinking about the user whose friends might use a variety of podcast apps.

We've removed "Listen on Metacast" because it was making the snippet too busy and potentially deterring from people from clicking the link.

We've just made podcast sharing a tad cooler. When you share a podcast on social media, the snippet is short and sweet. We only display what is necessary - the cover, the title and the sexy blur behind the image.

Funny that it was written by a science correspondent. The internet was something scientific back then.

9/ Every piece of infra you use must have a budget.

Ignore this at your own peril. 🚨

8/ At that point, we’d either have to pay up or try negotiating with Vercel to reduce or forgive the bill.

Either option sucks.

7/ Now, imagine a nightmare scenario.

A crawler hits our whole site in a few days. At the end of the month, we get an email saying our transaction for thousands of dollars can’t be processed.

Because we don’t have that kind of money.

6/ Worst part? It's not even real users generating this cost.

It's mostly web crawlers that go deep into the site and access the long-tail pages.

5/ At full scale of ~100M episodes, we'd be looking at a $500K bill just for image optimization. 😵
