Last year, Moises lost his leg due to medical complications. Unable to continue working in construction, he became homeless and faced an uncertain future while residing in a medical respite shelter.

After a bone infection led to the amputation of his leg below the knee, Christopher was wheelchair-bound without access to a prosthetic. Christopher wore his Superman pants the day he received his new leg because, as he said, “he knew today was going to be amazing.”

That 500 figure does not even include people who have worn-out prosthetics and need a replacement. Many of those individuals do not have insurance or are underinsured and are unable to cover the unexpected and high cost of prosthetic care.
