I'm being generous with the "3 years" thing, as carmakers burning cash that long become distressed credit stories.
LiDAR is already $4.5K now, as Waymo makes it in-house. The computer & installation costs are actually the highest, but they will drop when Toyota makes Waymo's cabs.

Comparing those numbers with the entire human driving population is simply bad analysis.
And your apparent dislike of Tesla does not give you the right to spread false or misleading claims.

We're close, I believe. They can only stay at these bubble levels while burning cash this year if they fully rollout paid driverless rides. And that's not going to happen.

Some people (hardcore Tesla fans) think that there's massive demand for robotaxis, as no one wants to drive anymore. I disagree, especially if it's with a clearly flawed "self-driving" software.

For everyone like you who has no problems with FSD, you've got others getting into horrible accidents. The fact is that, even Tesla's Austin "robotaxi" fleet, which has a more advanced version of FSD, is crashing 4x more than human drivers. And that's with a safety driver in front.

These people are a danger to surrounding cars, cyclists, and pedestrians. The number of fatalities and serious injuries due to FSD breaking traffic laws has spiked. In any normal country, they'd be shut down already.

I think Tesla will burn through all of their cash within 3 years, so no, I don't think they can disrupt Waymo. They've hit a dead end with FSD, which now willfully blows through red lights and Tesla can't explain why.

Why Tesla "Robotaxis" Won't Be Driverless For Another 3 Years
Deep dive into FSD crash data shows incidents becoming more dangerous for Tesla owners, while Tesla's Austin robotaxis already crash 4x more frequently than human drivers.
Why Tesla robotaxis can't go driverless:
-4x more likely to crash vs humans
-3x more likely to cause an injury crash vs humans
-FSD knowingly runs red lights/drives the wrong way
-Tesla can't explain why
-Regulatory strangle: 1000s of new FSD crashes found

Funny how robotaxi operators with Level 4 autonomy disclose why their cars crashed, what they crashed into, whether it was within their ODD, etc.
Tesla, which loudly proclaims to have fully self-driving cars, redacts nearly everything, even which FSD version was in use. π€‘

There's only 1 without a safety driver and you can count the number of rides it's given on both hands. Most of the rides are for Tesla influencers who've signed NDAs. I've never seen a man so desperate to create an illusion this elaborate.

The vast majority of Tesla Robotaxi rides in Austin still have a safety driver
In January, Tesla announced its Robotaxis would begin operating without safety monitors. It doesnβt appear to have scaled up much....
Ask yourself this: if Tesla robotaxis were truly safe--they're now 4x worse than humans--why wouldn't Austin be flooded with them?
Prediction: Unless Musk provides data to the Texas DMV verifying that FSD is a Level 4 ADS, driverless rides end after May 28th.
