On June 22, 2025, I lost my closest friend to suicide. I’ve talked about it before privately, but with her birthday coming up this weekend, the grief has been hitting harder than I expected. I miss her dearly.

💻 Byte — Julio-Hector Martinez 💻 Created back in my early Marvel-OC era, Byte has been with me in different forms for years — and bringing him into his final design feels like finally giving him the story he always deserved. Julio Martinez is a half-human, half-cybernetic mutant, the sole survivor of a devastating plane crash that fused his body with the very tech meant to save him. What should’ve ended his life awakened something new: the ability to communicate with, manipulate, and command technology itself. Satellites, security grids, drones, data streams — Byte speaks their language. Despite everything he’s been through, he’s gentle, brilliant, and quietly funny. Bandit finds him cute (not that she’ll admit it), and somehow he balances out the chaos of Adler and the sunshine of Marcy effortlessly. He’s the heartbeat of this odd little family. Revisiting Byte reminds me why I love making superheroes — mixing tragedy, resilience, and heart into characters who feel real.
