Finally saw The Secret Agent last night. Loved it. Reminded me of late ‘90s / early ‘00s foreign films and indies that would take big leaps in storytelling and style, and just expect you to follow along (or check out). No hand-holding.

I can finally reveal my next book, BLACK MAIL! Like POLYBIUS, it's period-set & inspired by an IRL mystery (the Circleville Letters), but takes a slow-burn path into the supernatural as characters grapple with their darkest secrets being exposed.

More soon!

They say an arcade cabinet showed up in Portland in 1981 and drove a bunch of people insane.

Get ready for my riff on I Saw the TV Glow, where a trans woman investigates the myth of Polybius!

If anyone is looking for a fun read before the final Polybius episode drops I recommend @collinarmstrong.bsky.social's book. It's got the 80s vibes. Great small town setting that you just know is gonna get torn apart. I read it all in one go with a flashlight during a blizzard. Now in paperback!

Black book cover with the title, Ploybius, and author's name Collin Armstrong, in a neon bright pink 80s style font. In the center is an image of a black arcade cabinet with a shining screen.

Just finished Polybius by Collin Armstrong. Really solid horror novel. 80s setting, dangerous video game. Good characters. Got to me a little by the end. Would make a great movie. I recommend if you think it sounds good to you.

Cover for Tim Lebbon's COLDBROOK. A zombie-esque figure standing in a field in front of woods. A fog is coming in, and it's all very dreary. Book cover for Stephen Graham Jones' STATES OF GRACE. It features a face made up of different people (and one animal!). The strips are a mixture of young and old (and a lion?). The top is just a glimpse of a forehead with black hair. Then there's more hair, but it's in black and white and almost looks like it was drawn with a pencil. Next strip, you see gray hair on the sides of a heavily wrinked forehead, and the beginning of some dark eyebrows. A painting of someone's eyes follows, then an old picture of the top of a nose, followed by the bottom nose of a lion. Beneath that are lips from a painting and the next strip contains the chin. The neck strip shows a spiked necklace tight around it.

They are walking on railroad tracks into a tunnel. Cove for Grace Byron's HERCULINE. It has green flames covering the novel, with a head rising from them in the center.

I absconded with a desk chair from my last office job about 16 years ago & use it to this day. Not as cool as this one, but a nice chair.

Always been fascinated by these clips and agree, they're some of his freakiest work. From the choice of medium to the way the action's staged with the figure slowly lurching into frame... these really do play like nightmares. Great write-up.

I just wrote a passage for this new book that was either deeply upsetting, and I feel bad about it...

...or I feel like I didn't write it well, and feel bad about that.

I can't tell yet, and it'd kind of driving me crazy.

This is basically one of my NY resolutions and so far, it's going OK.

I need less IRL doom. And I'd to rebuild at least some of my attention span.

Generally I don't, but this bot should not be ignored.

If you have that place on your house, too, maybe you ought to pick up a copy of POLYBIUS.
