"And neither of us left." Zack goes as far as to check over his shoulder, notes the door still closed, the long black coat hanging there untouched. Even if Sephiroth had left in the night, Zack would've known; light sleeper, the side-effects of mako treatment.

Sephiroth’s eyes dart across the floor, frantically trying to make sense of everything firing at lightning speed through his head. He is in Nibelheim, this he knows. He is here with Zack, he knows this too. What he doesn't know is how to explain that while they were here he was also hunting a girl he doesn't know through the slums of Midgar. He doesn't know what she has but he needs it, and he doesn't know why he does but he is relentless, and there is nowhere she can hide where he won't find her. He doesn't know her. But her eyes glow, just like his. "Having bad dreams again?" Zack asks, in that carefree voice that is anything but. Sephiroth looks up at him, finally, because he needs to see him alive. There is a ribbon around his gloved fist, only there isn't. He misses him, but he is right here. He is alive, and he is right here. 'I know what it feels like to run a sword through you,' he thinks without thinking, feeling tired, feeling sick. 'It was so, so easy.'

They fucked with the timelines, and on a mission to Nibelheim Sephiroth begins experiencing them all at once.
