A good few years ago a freedom of information request came through from a member of the public asking why Public Health Wales hadn’t told the public human metapneumovirus existed. We’d been performing routine diagnostics and surveillance on it for about 4 years at the time.

Retention and the balance between experienced and “rookie” staff is so critical. I’m glad UKHSA finally matched pay to the NHS for HCPC registered lab staff. Not perfect, but it does help retention a bit.
