My view is that the real value layer is going to be design (e.g. beyond the chatbot). Because yes the models have inherent shortcomings that will never go away (and still infuriate me), but designing with appreciation for strengths and weaknesses I think is where it gets more interesting.

100% on the tooling. I’m far from an expert but my sense is they’ve mostly maxed out on the models but the tooling is what’s responsible for gains last 6 months. Even a terminal and access to a file tree is way better “design” than just a chat bot.

I’ve been using Claude Code for a couple of weeks for primarily non technical stuff and as a bootstrapped founder there are exciting aspects that may help address longtime frustrations. BUT, these companies are so problematic in the way they operate and that wont change with VCs involved.

Completely agree about no moat and my hope is that it almost ends up an open source commodity. Given these models are based on IP theft, ethically it should be community resource primarily. And, if the profit motive taken out we can move past hype and be reasonable about where value is.
