The state spent big on infra for these companies before the sell off, to make it a nice sweet deal they could exploit for a decade

Easy to be smug about having an EV .. But almost everything in this world is fossil powered so we'll all be paying for this

Shipping (its 50% fossil fuels!), trucks, farming, manufacturing etc etc

Two articles highlighted on the RNZ front page.

The first about one of the world's largest gas exporters turning off the tap.

The second about our lagging solar energy uptake, with documents revealing the government shelved a subsidy.

China’s latest energy data offers a signal worth paying attention to. In 2025, emissions from energy and industry fell by 0.3%, modest, but notable, even as total energy consumption rose by 3.5%.

The key driver? A continued surge in solar power capacity.

A great demo of Luxon's lack of resilience to basic testing of his ideas, and the fragility of his airport CEO/airport bookstore "leadership" style: when he says "zooming out" you're meant to understand he's a Big Picture Thinker and be dazzled by his Helicopter View, not ask about actual details!

Government β€˜kicked the tyres’ on solar subsidies but went with β€˜minor’ tweaks instead It is one of the cheapest ways to cut power bills - yet documents reveal the government shelved a subsidy.

New Zealand has more sunshine than Germany.
But only 1 in 35 homes here has rooftop solar.
Australia? 1 in 3.

Why? I tried to find out - despite some strange secrecy

That range seems a bit optimistic for a 15 year old Nissan Leaf.
Mind you, it's had BBS (Battery Bypass Surgery) about six years ago...
Would like to drain it completely flat to see what its range REALLY is. Lots of learning in store with this car. Should be fun!
