So Keir Starmer's immigration plan is to tighten up Theresa May's "Hostile Environment" immigration policy. Good grief, no scandal will be left untouched by this Labour Gov't.

Labour MP says Starmer’s ‘island of strangers’ warning over immigration mimics scaremongering of far right – UK politics live PM unveils new policies meant to drive down net migration by end of this parliament

Appalling from #KeirStarmer, villainizing immigrants rather than thanking them for invaluable contributions. They are a vital part of our communities- our colleagues, friends, partners, neighbours. Dangerous, divisive & inaccurate. #UKlabour impossible to support

When will Starmer learn that no matter how good his Nigel Farage impression gets, it won't save him from wipeout at the hands of Reform? Here's another idea - how about doing the work that's needed to actually make people's lives better? 🧵

Already an inescapable conclusion for anyone who agrees that Iraqi lives are as valuable as everyone else's that this man is the worst UK Prime Minister in living memory.

But his ongoing efforts to secure that title remain something to behold.

Relief this morning about the Canadian election results. But it's a reprieve rather than a triumph: probably a minority Liberal government, with a hefty Conservative Opposition that has tacked radically to the right, and leads with younger voters. Without Trump, Canadian Trumpism would have won.

Cyclist taking part in 'traffic-free event' dies after being hit by car A CYCLIST taking part in a “traffic free” organised event in Inverness has died after being hit by a car, police have said ...

Cyclist murdered by a car driver during a closed road cycling event called Etape Loch Ness near Inverness. Condolences to his family and friends. Interested to see the sentence after a week of news about cyclists facing a life sentence if a pedestrian is killed.

A mum and her two young children, casually cycling along a safe, protected cycle track in the Dutch countryside next to a main road, but a world away from danger. This is what freedom looks like when you design for people, not just cars

It's a tounge in cheek expression. But I'm a strong advocate for infrastructure that prevents the sort of nonsense that has happened in the OP's photo. In that situation, taking back the streets probably takes the form of bollards or other infrastructure in front of the school.

A colour photo of a bike lane with, rather predictably, an Audi in it. A cyclist riding on the pavement, because there's an Audi parked in the bike lane

WhY dON't cYcListS use the cycle path we build for them?

Is it because there's an Audi parked in it?

This is Birmingham, but it's exactly the same in Glasgow. It's high time to take back the streets from the exclusivity of cars.

A grey bollard, the hero of this story, in the median strip of a road. It wears bright yellow reflective tape in three strips, two attractively at the top and one at its nether regions. Next to it an orange traffic cone. In the background a pedestrian thoroughfare with a sunny strip and shade plants.

Honouring here this noble member of our community, a bollard that is snapped off every week, replaced the following week, on repeat. This week it’s been returned with some reflective tape and a traffic cone guardian. Long may it serve us.

Thames Water has been given a £3 billion bailout, paid for by you and me.

Why should households have to pay for the mess that Thames Water got itself into, just so execs and shareholders can protect their profits?

There is a better solution: take water into public ownership.

Cycle path in Glasgow's Southside sees record numbers using route THOUSANDS of cyclists have used a newly completed cycle route in Glasgow, according to new data.

If people feel safe commuting on a bike everyone wins. Even those in cars because there is less traffic. Keep up the good work Glasgow! For all those haters in cars, we'll see you after you've been stuck in traffic for 20 minutes and paid for parking.

One year in prison, one year on licence and a four year driving ban, for killing a cyclist while driving distracted.

This is for a case that took nearly five years to come to trial.

The system is broken.

My thoughts go out to the cyclist’s family. Their grief has been compounded by a killer driver that lied repeatedly and a judge that in the face of all this decided to rob them of justice.

To the judge on their sentence: is this how little a cyclist’s life is worth?

A graphic with a blue sky background and white clouds. The text reads: "Harmful NO2 levels are estimated to be lower in 2024 compared to a scenario without ULEZ". The reductions are listed as follows: Central London – 54% lower, Inner London – 29% lower, Outer London – 24% lower. A source link at the bottom reads: london.gov.uk/ulez.

ULEZ works. It’s that simple.

Expanding the Ultra Low Emission Zone wasn’t a decision I took lightly, but the latest figures show that it was the right one for the health of millions of Londoners.
