Our label-free multimodal imaging approach combines THG myelin imaging, NAD(P)H FLIM, and advanced automated analysis to simultaneously quantify myelin architecture and cellular metabolism in living brain tissue, revealing cell-specific metabolic signatures and changes during demyelination.

Optical redox ratio coded images from a cervical epithelial tissue.
💡 New guidelines aim to standardize label-free optical metabolic imaging, a technique that uses light to study cell metabolism without dyes.
Consistency could lead to more accurate, reproducible results in cancer & drug development research. Read the #SPIE_JBO article: https://bit.ly/4isPMFc

"Proposed actions against fake science presented after meeting
Today, Dan Larhammar, Uppsala University and former president of the Academy, and Bernhard Sabel from Otto von Guericke University in Magdeburg, Germany, have published the Stockholm Declaration, which outlines a number of proposed countermeasures against fake science, often produced by AI. This growing problem was discussed early this summer at a workshop held at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences."
Below that a group photo of the attendees on the steps of the main building of the Royal Swedish Academy.
This is the result of a meeting held this summer in Stockholm, organized by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, where I was one of the attendees.

Wrapping up #Mifobio2025!
What I love most about this conference is how it reminds me that science is, above all, a collaborative effort. Nothing beats the sense of community here. See you in 2 years!

Our study presents a systematic characterization of polarized THG (pTHG) signals from individual axons, enabling the derivation of myelin scores in various systems. 🐭🐟
We confirm the sensitivity of THG for myelin in mouse tissue and detect early axon development in zebrafish.

We show that axons exhibit complex pTHG profiles that depend on axon morphology and can't be explained by classical models. We establish a numerical strategy to relate pTHG profiles to axon diameter and myelin thickness, taking into account myelin-induced optical aberrations.
