The adaptive molecular landscape of reprogrammed telomeric sequences Telomeric sequences vary across the tree of life and intimately co-evolve with telomere-binding protein complexes. However, the molecular mechanisms allowing organisms to adapt to new telomeric sequen...

Superhappy to share the last paper from my PhD in @litinice.bsky.social lab. We evolved yeasts with humanized telomeric repeats and discovered that they adapt through amplification of telomere-binding proteins and inactivation of the DNA damage response.

Human gut bacteria bioaccumulate PFAS

Excited to share some key details on our latest research in @natmicrobiol.nature.com reporting intra-cellular accumulation of #PFAS (aka forever chemicals) by certain human gut bacteria. #microsky #mevosky #microbiomesky

Latest study from the lab is online today (and another will be out tomorrow, stay tuned:)). We profiled effect of >1700 chemicals (drugs, pesticides,...) on secretion of amines (involved in gut-brain and gut-immune axis. ) by human gut bacteria. Brilliant work by @skamrad.bsky.social and Tara Davis

Saccharomycopsis yichangensis sp. nov., a Novel Predacious Yeast Species Isolated From Soil Saccharomycopsis yichangensis sp. nov. occurs in soil from a subtropical forest in central China. This novel species is homothallic and produces asci containing four spheroidal ascospores, which can ...

In the latest #Yeast research article of the series #FantasticYeasts, Pei-Jie Han, Feng-Yan Bai & team describe a new yeast species isolated from a Chinese forest: Saccharomycopsis yichangensis, that can prey on Saccharomyces cerevisiae and other yeasts 😲

Check out our new preprint!
We systematically map proteomic and metabolomic interactions between >100 pairs of gut bacteria, detecting metabolic interactions and functionally-related clusters of proteins.

Prolonged persistence of mutagenic DNA lesions in somatic cells - Nature Persistent DNA lesions can occur throughout the human lifespan and can remain in the genome of affected cells for several years and generate a substantial proportion of the mutational burden.

Building on our discovery of #LesionSegregation, @mikespencerchapman.bsky.social and colleagues from @sangerinstitute.bsky.social find that some DNA lesions can persist in humans for months or years!
