I just called my US senators and told them to publicly call for Tim Sheehy to be expelled from the Senate for assaulting and apparently breaking the hand of a Marine today.

The GOP is all "respect the troops" until the troops no longer support the white supremacist patriarchy, or, in this case, its living-breathing avatar in the form of Donald J. Trump, then it's "breaks the troops' arms."

Every other ad on a podcast or mobile game is for GLP-1-related stuff- either the meds themselves or things like supplements explicitly marketed as "support" for them. It's *exhausting*.

It really fascinates me the way these people have meetings where they shake hands and shit-grin at each other talking about what fast friends they are while firmly believing the other to be doomed in the eyes and hands of their angry / indifferent god and laughing about it.

So we get to watch as the tower falls and mere anarchy is loosed upon the world, the blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere the ceremony of innocence is drowned (Yeats).

My heart is broken in so many ways. Jenga, all the way down.

Jews won't convert en masse nor be sent to hell (not least bc there is no hell); US arms won't bend the will of the other 442.7 people in the region to the messianic fever dreams of the 10 million in Israel (of whom 20% are Palestinian-Israelis & 20% are non-military-serving ultra-Orthodox Jews ).

It's worth noting that Israeli Jewish leaders & American Christian Nationalist leaders are cynically using each other in the sure knowledge that the other believes nonsense & can thus be instrumentalized toward specific ends. There will be no 2nd Coming & Israel cannot shape the region as it wishes.

People are complex, complicated, & bring not just themselves but their whole past & the experiences of those they love & among whom they live & those who went before them to every moment of their lives.

But both the Trump regime & Netanyahu's government only ever see flat characters, not people.

They do not care to understand that the hundreds of millions of people in the Middle East—with their hundreds of millions of social networks, dreams, desires, & fears—have agency. Have whole cultures, centuries-long histories, shared traumas & joys that inform their decisions. That they're people.

Trump and Netanyahu have pulled any number of blocks from the tower at the same time and for reasons that entirely escape me, appear to believe the remaining blocks will do as they're told and/or organically expand to fill the others' spaces, even as the tower is already collapsing.

My academic training is in the modern Middle East (the first week of every class in my Masters program at U Chicago was a heated discussion of what constitutes "the Middle East").

My focus was on Israel/Palestine, but I did a lot of work around the rest of the region, especially Iran.

American Jews have been TRYING to tell folks that yes, AIPAC is evil, & fuck them, but Christian Zionists in the US outnumber Jews IN THE WORLD & have risen to power in all areas of our government, & they want to bring the End Times (& kill all the Jews btw), AND THIS IS WHAT WE WERE TALKING ABOUT.
